New car winter prep? Supaguard or other?

  LY 200
Hi All

Just got a new car (brand new) and thinking of having it supaguarded but is there a better less expensive alternative?

I don't mind paying somebody in the south east to do it for me as I'm useless at this sort of thing but think its probably best to do something before the salt really hits the road.

Cheers

supaguard is gash, we used to use it years ago and its a con as far as our owners were concerned. id look for something else, more to the point your better of detailing yourself.
others might have another opinion of supaguard, but at the end of the day its down to personal choice =)

Another vote here for scrapping the supaguard idea.

You will be much better off giving it a polish and wax/sealant of some description.

I cannot recomend any though as all I use is autoglym from work.

Please don't Jay. It's the biggest con in the world mate, take £200 and pay a local detailer to give it a once over. Be worth twice as much as supaguard/diamondbrite et al.

Cheers chaps I was thinking as much on the supaguard front so will probs get a detailer to sort it for me.

JD got a Fiesta Metal mate. Needed peace of mind of warranty because of doing more miles and as the 197 failed it's first MOT after just 18k of TLC and already needed a new exhaust it was time.

How's things? Still got the S3?

good choice on the metal, basically a zetec s, bar a few changes. interior, black paint and wheels etc.

LOL! s**t news mate!

Yeah still have it, although it's getting bumped, bashed and broken into/wing mirrors stolen off it in Londres, so trading it in sometime into the New Year. I needs something similar so might go for a newish Focus.

Yeah I'm happy with it Jordi although it's not as amazing on the fuel front as I was expecting which is abit piss!

Nice comfortable cruiser for the motorway and better looking than the 197 so for the money I'm not complaing too much.

JD I thought I'd hate not having the power mate but dropping to a warm hatch has not been the end of the world. Most of the time I found myself trying preserve fuel in the RS anyway which wasnt ideal.

were are you in Essex? If you decide not to go with the suparguard or other nano sealants your more than welcome to bring it round and we can give it a once over with a normal wax or sealant to get you started.

As for professional detailers there is Rob and Gleammachine somewhere near Kent, or James at Auto Finesse near Stansted

Yeah Auto Finesse would be my push Jay, as Dave has mentioned. I would offer my services, but I am looking for a detailer myself as I don't have the time :(

No they are pretty cack on fuel, mine annoys me as It gets so crap. Cracking cars the MK7 though :) the interior in the metal is much better than the renault for sure

Get one of the reputable detailers mentioned to coat it with Gtechniq C1

Good shout C1 if your not into detailing with it's anti scratch and self cleaning abilitys.. Look at galleys recent detail on his FRP to see the results it can give!

What about a coat of Opti-Coat 2.0 should be more than enough to keep the car fresh for a year or two.

C1 isthing you want uf you want to almost forget about it. All depends what you want.

Are you going to clean it afterwards?

Gally mate I could count how many times I cleaned the 197 this year on one hand! lol

I'm over the top on looking after a car mechanically and hate any dings or scratches but as far as cleaning cars go its a chore for me.

Will look into this C1 malarky I think.

As above C1 or Opti Coat 2.0 is what you want on your new car. They actually do last c.2 years unlike Supaguard etc.

I have some videos of C1 in action to upload to my detail thread soon Russ. Hopefully tomorrow if I can.

Give them a look let me know what you think.
