New car

Ive been Valver-less for three days now and Im missing it very badly! Ive got about £7k sat in the bank at the moment and am itching for a new car (my Volvo S40 is not exactly providing the same thrills as the Valver did).

The original idea was to get a mint Williams - but just you try finding one! Ive seen a tasty Willy1, but am holding out for a Willy2. However, either the cars have got problems or theyre sold by the time in enquire!! My mind has also started wandering off into the realms of Clio-sin: Im thinking of getting a 106 Rallye, 106 GTi or 306 Rallye.

One of the main things is that you can get a 1 owner, leather-specced, 20-40k miler 106 GTi for £4000-£5000! How far would that sort of money get you on a hunt for a mint Williams??!! Not very!!

Help - I need some encouragement! Have been commuting for 2 hours by train to work this week and will be again in the future as my mum also uses the Volvo now and again. Bloody Dr Beeching - there is a line running straight to my place of work that closed to passengers in the late 1960s. When will people see that railways are national infrastructure like roads: theyre a basic social service like street lighting and defence and arent meant to make profit. (Sorry - not Clio related there!)

Oh man :(

Just had a whole day going to see cars and they were all mingers... well, they were all 106 GTis! Definitely not into them at all - way off Valver pace even in the power band and crap brakes too. I had been led to believe that they were just as good as a Valver, but I find the opposite. The interior is much smaller and they seem to wear the miles worse than Clios. Now thats saying something!

One car even had the V5 in the name of someone else - he didnt seem to care! Another car had alarm problems and wouldnt even start!

All this has confirmed that I need a car with fat arches and a bonnet bulge, whether its a Willy or Im considering throwing the £7k budget at a basic valver and then stripping the beast and slapping on a F7R to make a 1993 Group A rally car replica!!

The alarms are common problems on them apparently. My mate bought one and it had just had new sensors fitted on a T reg!?

How much are new Clios these days?

ha ha buy a good valver reasonably cheap and do it up, ohh or get cleans 16 valve off him, now thats nice

It wasnt just the alarm on that particular car - it wasnt wearing its 47k miles well at all (rocker cover was peeling, sunroof was falling apart and too many rattles to name a few problems!). I sold my Valver on 105k and although it was hard work, it was a proper minter.

Unfortunately, brand new Clios are out of my price range. I could just stretch to a dog-eared Mk1 172, which was not the original plan - but its becoming more appealing in light of the crapness of the 106 GTis Ive seen and the rarity of Willys.

I would snap up a mint Williams right now - so if anyone has got one this is your chance!!

The main problem for me is time - none of the Willys are close enough for me to look at during the week after work and next weekend is out of the question due to my girlfriends birthday.

Like you I was after a Mint Williams but having been to look at 5 of the things I decided to have a look at a 306 Rallye. Went to see one today and bought it! Deposit is down and picking it up next week.

If you wanna see any pics of it find EVO issue 3 and it was the official press car Peugeot gave to the magazines to thrash and review! Its also on page 9 of the current issue.

Wherabouts are you Ben H? Theres a willy 2 for sale beside me for 5k that looks fairly mint and standard. Its on autotrader..if you enter my postcode (AB116NQ) its 5 miles away....

Im in Wales, near Cardiff - CF64. None for sale locally and the closest is 85 miles away. I was speaking to a bloke with a promising-sounding example in Cheshire, but he decided to keep it in the end. Most of the others have been sold by the time I call or sound like dogs.

Im guessing the AB postcode is Aberdeen? Just a little way away from me!! The Willy youre on about is not for me due to the tinted windows as well.

Got to be a 306 Rallye (in black or white) or an Integra Type R, as previously mentioned. I wouldnt bother with a GTi-6 myself when theres the Rallye on offer. Saw a T plate scooby with about 40k on the clock for £6995. Thatd also tempt me along with the 20V Turbo Fiat Coupe at £4995!

rhys

nope not for a while now mate plans did not go as i planned
