New interior light..

  ?
Bit bright eh? :)

Thanks to gumby for the old shape light holder.
Night pics coming soon... watch this space!

  Never above 25mpg
Looks really good. Might get me one of them old light holders to replace the crappy reading light.

That will be Ridiculously Bright when its Dark...... Will it glow slightly when its off though or have you fitted a Resistor??

  ?
I havent fitted a resistor... but it doesnt glow at all in the day when its off... maybe it will at night?

I give it another 60 mins before i can get decent dark shots

  ?
OK, brighter than i estimated LOL, these pics dont do it justice. Sorry my phone camera is crap it has given it a blue tinge... its bright white in real life.

Note - when the light is off 3 out of the 40 leds remain on dimly... bit annoying but oh well... definately worth it.

Rather then fitting a resistor, its better to fit a diode. Current/voltage will still be present with a resistor. Can't be arsed to explain it but a diode is a lot better. Stops the voltage/current passing through full stop.

arent they all diodes thou :S i thought diodes are a sort of 1 way sign where the power can only go 1 way

Can someone tell me exactly what i need to fit? I want a resistor/diode to make the 3/4 leds that stay on dimly turn off and also this will reduce the overall brightness (which isnt a bad thing imo :p)

does anyone know what resistor/diode to buy?

Yes and no a resistor does what it says "resists" voltage/current travelling through it. You can fit a resistor on but it would have to be big enough to cancel out any voltage that would be there.

A diode is in essence the same as an LED in that it allows voltage to pass one way and not another.

Ergo if you fit a diode in on the Ground lead of the interior light cable/connector this negates any feedback received from the ground wire.

Very confused. so what do i need to fit to slightly dim the light and avoid the leds bieng on dimly when off?

I could send you what you need if you want?? Il just need to figure out what you actually need (resistor wise).

What we want to do is drop the voltage being supplied to your light but not by too much or the LEDs wont light up. I can send you a few resistors to try... Im thinking it would be something small like a 1K but even that might not be enough/too much.

Can you take a piccy of your connector that connects to your light?? Just so I can see how many wires are there/ what they are doing??

Does you rsi have ultrasonic sensors in?? They look like little microphones on the door pillars?!!

I soldeired it directly to the connectors. Ultrasonics? It has an alarm with sensors in the door pillars yes.

i got you now. was thinking there basically 40 diodes in there already what will another do lol. electrics can be very confusing at times

Cool what you'l need to try is the diode on the black wire and resistor on the red wire. This "should"!! stop them being alight when the lights are off and also stop them being so bright. Il have a check tomorrow and let you know as per my pm dude :)

My Interior Light glows slightly aswell... Fancy fixing it for me at the EA Meet Rich? If its possible to do in a Car Park LOL

Update - messed about with electronics + soldering iron today...

Fitted a 500u potentiometer to adjust the brightness (some say its too bright!)

Also, fitting a diode did nothing... im guessing the 4 lights staying on was an error in the circuit board. So... i just cut and stuck some insulating tape over the offending lights and voila! You cant see them at all when its off and light still shines through when its on + looks normal!

Pics coming soon....

  ?
Oh btw, increasing the resistance does dim the lights when they are on, but seems to have no effect on the offending 4 lights... which is why maybe the diode method did not work and also why i suspect an error in circuit board.

  ?
Pics as promised....

Potentio-meter means all i have to do is pop off the light to adjust the brightness if i decide its too bright, and it can be reversed just by turning the knob back to its original position!

Tidy job u think? i was happy with it. With the cover fitted you cant tell its bee modified at all.
