  clio 1.2 16v
hi my name is martin and my partner whos car it is is debbie and we live in essex . just bought a replacement clio for my partner debbie a 51 plate 1.2 16v 3dr expression + called silvie because its silver to replace her old 1.2 r reg clio called clarence that was suffering from a bit of tin worm on drop sills and outer sills mechanicilly was sound but wouldnt pass mot without major cosmetic surgery so has today gone to the retirement home ie scrap yard . the new one was bought with an intermiitant cutting out problem i looked on a few sites and it mentioned the security block over the ecu loom chaffing witch i removed as it showed signs of chaffing and retaped the loom and had no problems for two weeks till today when the car cut out and woulnt start . we got it going and manageged to get it home i chcked connections and all seemed fine if i leave it running all is well i rev a few times all good i rev again and it cut out and wont start for a bit and then it will . the ecu loom has been repaired , the crank position sensor above gear box replaced i am thinking maybe the throttle pedal assembly . are these prone to failure ?

Welcome!

I had alot of problems with my 1.2 16v. The ecu cover had worn through the wires so i tapped it all up along with every other bare wire i found and the car was fine then!

I remember someone telling me it could of been the throttle assembly but in the end it was just the bare wires, have another look over and make sure they are all properly sealed up and make sure that ecu cover cant wobble around anymore :)

the ecu security bracket has been removed ill check the wires again and retape them some one also suggested the relay set up on nsf inner wing under the cover . the car will crank over for a few seconds not fire then stop cranking then for some reson will start if i leave throttle pedal i will tick over quite happily until i touch pedal then it will cut out and not start

Bit of a long shot here but... your car doesnt leak at all does it? Your carpets arent wet in around your pedals?

no all is dry i put a code reader on it today and no faults it started this morning let it run for a bit took it for a run and it cuts out the engine management light comes on and it immobilises itself after a while of cursing and swearing it starts but then cuts out about 5 mins later same scenario the immobileser light stays on constant it turns over for a few seconds then stops . i have checked the relays in engine compartment but all appears ok ive even done away with the fuse box bit and wired the relays to crimp on spade connectors and still does the same so a bit confused

bit of an update checked the other relay/fuse plate at the rear of the main relays in engine bay and they look a bit green and manky on the under side so pulled it out bit of a clean wd40 and repositioned it so it in a different position had it running for 40 mins revving happily no probs so re clipped it all back up ten mins later fault back again so i am thinking its the bit of loom with the main big fuses in so gonna get another loom set up for there and see how it goes fingers , legs crossed it sorts it
