i know !:)it does need :
heater matrix
alloys refurbed
parcel shelf
carpet [cos theres stilletto holes in it lol!!]
key damage on the bonnet and rear quarter remedied
............other than that its got no rust at all and the seats are mint.
116'000 miles but starts and pulls fine.gearbox is sweet

also guys the exhaust tailpipe is touching the back bumper recess and resonates.all the rubbers are fine so i was wondering:did the valvers have longer exhaust rubbers to stop this and mine may have standard mk1 ones??

and the oil level gauge doesnt work.......any ideas??

overall though bit of a result no money down and finally got a wlliams, unheard of. lol

  wait and see ;)

welcome mate, your willy was a bit cheaper than mine and i thought mine was cheap!lol

yeah clio16valver or williamsclio for mk 1 info tbh mate, as jamie says!

oil level will more than likely be the sender unit, its located at bottom front right of engine block as u look from front of the car, included temp sender aswell as one unit. these can wiggle loose, or just break and need replacing.can also check connections to the clocks themselves behind the dash, just whip top dash off and check the plug.

exhaust may not be hung straight, is it aftermarket? looks like it in pic. best bet is to get under there and undo the clamps, wiggle the system around till it sits correctly and then retighten the clamps. rubbers are same across the mk1 range so unlikely to be that, just check they are all there and in good nick, if ones fallen off the other end of the back box it may be hanging low there, tipping tailpipe up into the bumper.

heater matrix is a bit of a pig of a job, have to remove alot of the dashboard, and pull entire dash unit forwards, also remove scuttle panels and the heater blower to access screws etc, best of gettin on the mk1 forums and grabbing a guide off there, if u are handy with a spanner set aside a half a day to a day to do it, grab a o/e valeo replacement unit from GSF

oil gauge has suddenly started working again as per french car standards ! exhaust is hung as normal.no hangers bent or anything its just touching the recess in the bumper so it might not have the correct hangers!??!
im already so scared about the mess im gonna get snarled up in removing the dash and can only hope someone has done a 'heater matrix for dummys' thread somewhere on the interweb lol
for everyones info the car may have been free but its by no way perfect and does need some bodywork attention.also as its done 118,000 im scared its due a rebuild ??? ant

as said, dummies guide on williamsclio.co.uk so when jamie sorts the sign up issue ur away mate

lol at the oil gauge thing, must be loose connector then, probably behind the clocks, so i'd still whip dash top off, 5 torx screws and its off so 5 min job if that and worth it to check. connector at sender end is attached to oil dipstick tube, this can work loose aswell so check that n all

my williams is just about to clock 190k miles, it had headgasket done recently with valve seals etc all sorted aswell, but bottom end is untouched and still pulls excellent oil pressure etc so i wouldnt worry, if u service the car and it still pulls well etc then it'll last for ages yet.

main issue as u say is bodywork, mines a tad rusty! setting to it with some plate steel and a welder come the spring in all likelyhood

sling round corners alright tho dont they ;-)

lol, thats nowt mate then! if u dont have to weld 2 square foot of steel into it then its a good un

tappety is a common complaint, try using 10w 40 fully synth oil. when u change it slap some cheap as chips mineral crap in with a new filter for 500 mile or so, then change filter again and slap the good oil in, should help a bit. i wouldnt recommend any flushing products tho on an engine with that mileage, likely to cause more issues than it cures! mine sounds tappety for around 3 seconds on cold start just as the oil gets up into the head, then its fine, just the quiet ticking of the injectors, so listen for that aswell, make sure ur not mixing the two up as clogged injectors can get noisey aswell

oh yeah well agreed, i had to bail on a dual carriageway cos of traffic issues earlier for a dim back road and went into a bend at 80 that i would have died at 50 in the 106 in and it just hunkered down and went round !!! very impressed ;) also compared to the pug it doesnt seem as fast (piper cams, headwork, straight thru, quickshift and a strip job on the gti) but it so is.and im so impressed with the torque ! did some reading and the f7r (175nm) produces 85% of its torque @ 2500rpm:eek: can believe it after today ! im so in love.i was gonna keep the pug and the willy but im sick of the pug so im gonna get rid now.also loving the seats, ugly as sin but amazing !

ps the guys on the other forums im on have become so unfriendly recently and i was scared thats how the ' online community ' were going but you guys have been awesome the last couple of days and i cant wait for the next meet.im in guildford by the way so any local heads wanna meet up then cool ! also my mates manager of the local unipart and get me parts trade so can help out there.

peace
