New shocks with springs?

Hi All,
I am planning to lower my car, can't afford coilovers yet.
I want to lower it as much as possible but have heard if you lower it so far on springs you would need to upgrade the shocks aswell.

Can anyone recommend a limit where the shocks wouldn't need to be upgraded?

40mm is fine on standard shocks, any lower and it is advised you uprate them.

Would it be highly advised i dont fit and extra 5mm in there, seen 45mm lowering springs?

How much money have you got for springs? I know a lad who may ​be selling some 1.2 coilovers soon.

Not a stupid amount, was looking at springs around £100-£130 Brand new. Its a MK3 1.2
