  Clio 182
Hi, I'm new to the forum, I'm looking at buying a clio 172 or 182 over the next few weeks. What are the common faults/problems with them? Thanks Alex

Welcome mate

Usual things when looking at cars, matching decent tyres, service history with proof of cambelt change by someone who knows what they're doing not a local mechanic. If it is due a cambelt factor in/knock off circa £400

Have a read here:

Have a search aswel plenty if useful info on here.

What's your budget, have a gander in the classifieds on here. Happy hunting

Thanks for that, very useful. I've only got £2500 to spend so looking for a decent car at not a lot of money. What mileage does the cambelt need doing? I'm ideally looking for a relatively unmodified model but with full service history.

72k or 5 years mate.

Worry not, £2500 is plenty for a nice 172 or a cracker of a phase 1 172. 182's in less desirable colours are now falling under the 3k mark of late! Plenty on here, PH and AT.

Welcome!

No worries mate.

As Danny said above 5 years or 72k which ever is first, don't be fobbed off with its only done 50k so it'll be right (if its original belt). They can perish/crack with age. If it fails can be big bills time £££.

If its due take it to one of the specialists on here, there are a few depending on where you are in country.

That's plenty to get you in a decent 172.

Also when you get chance, pay the £12 to become a member. It'll pay for itself in no time, and will give you access to all the Traders sections on here

I managed to pick up a Titanium Silver 182 at the end of Feb for £2.4k so they're about. Is Titanium an undesirable colour?? :rasp:
He wanted £3k and granted it had done under 50k but it had never had a belt change. Lots of traders on here who can give you a good price on a belt change too so I got Fred at BTM to do mine a week later.

These little Clios quickly become companions though and I've easily dropped an additional £1.5k on it since owning it. It gets addictive!
