Hello! My name is Dan and i'm from bournemouth, not sure if there are any other members around the area? Ive joined the site as ive been reading ocasionally on here as i am slowly working on my Clio(non sport) and wish to gain more knowladge and general chat about clios!

My first question is about lowering, what people think is the best way, and what height etc.. ive never lowered a car before so any help would be much appriciated, heres some pics of my car as it is..

Thanks, Dan.

Welcome to CS,

Fair few people in and around Dorset. http://www.cliosport.net/forum/group.php?groupid=9 or http://www.cliosport.net/forum/group.php?groupid=11

For lowering there are two options, firstly lowering springs. These are a straight swap with the current springs but their compressed height is lower. They come in sizes of about -20mm to -40mm. You buy a size and hope you like it. Eibach Sportlines or Prolines are the preffered choice, roughly £130. You can use these with the standard shocks no problem. They are fine for speedbumps etc. The ride quality is still decent. Sporty feel.

If you tried to go any lower then you'd need non-standard shock absorbers, which is where coilovers come in. These are new, lower springs sold with a slightly different style of shock absorber suitable for going very low. Adjustable so you can try different heights. About 0mm to -90mm. Poor quality chinese ones etc cost roughly £200. Can go very low. Adjustable. Very harsh ride. You can forget trackdays! Tbh if you just want "lowz" these cheapy "raceland" etc (they're all the same just with a different name) ones are ok.

Depends what you want to do with the car really. Are you wanting to be a local rudebwoi with a "slammed" clio dat u can hang outside local maccy d's lukin siiikkkk blud, or do you just want to do subtle, tasteful but sporty mods?

Steven has pretty much hit the nail on the head! The best option is some decent coilovers as you can play around and decide on the best height! I would stay away from the cheap ones as my mate had some cheap ones on his car and took them off again after 2 months because the ride was so terrible he couldn't stand them any more! I had some FK ones on my car and really enjoyed them! Great for in the twisties y0!
