New tyre problem

  2015 ST2(MO)/CorsaLE
GF/fiancee went to a local tyre fitter on friday to have x2 new cheap tyres for the back of her corsa! anyway all happy and she got home! - and didnt drive it until late saturday afternoon! when i get a call! shes spun on the road! (shes not the most of experience drivers) but turns out the tyre was flat completely - i told her she should have checked if it was before she started to set off (but you know women) :rasp: - anyway i turned up and changed it for her putting her spare on for her! checked the tyre and all seemed ok apart from as i say it was flat - Nothing in it??! nail etc! what would have caused the tyre to go flat?! not correctly sealed???!

any thought please - car going back to said garage today

:) Paul

If the wheel has rust on the beading air can purge underneath the paint, the valve may not have been changed, the weights might have purged some air, the possibilities are endless but if the tyre has been run flat it will need replacing. You can tell because it will have a groove in the sidewall... And :) if the tyre fitter tries fitting it back on the wheel punch him.

^^ its had a new valve - i think my gf wants a new tyre anyway! (which i can see her point) the wheels arent that rusty (only very light) so i doubt that would be it :) thanks!!

It doesnt really matter about the face of the wheel its the beading where the tyre sits on the wheel. Have a look while the tyre is being changed. Ask for tyre sealant aswell.

i think its got to be the latter - imo hardly any tyre selant has been used?! would that have made the tyre go down?! :S

i used to be a tyre fitter for honda. When a tyre is fitted they should be blown up to around 50-60psi to ensure the tyre is sitting nice and firmly on the bead, then dropped down to the required pressure. If this is not done then yes they can go flat
