Hello all,

im new here and have just bought a clio rt 1400 (with problems plz read on!) a member of lancerregister.com and thought id register here instead of just reading.

just bought my clio RT (8v i think) 1992 J Plater with 61,000 on the clock. Paid a low price and i now know why, over every bump in the road theres a horrible metal on metal grinding noise, ive just put TSW EvoRs 16x6.5 on there and i dont think they are the cause (4x100 ET45) the driveshafts were replaced approx 4k ago.

do any of you guys know what could be the cause? i was thinking maybe an engine mount as there is a knock when the engine fires at start up, and also the brake pedal was hitting the floor when cold last night.

please help me if you can :D other than that i think ill be very happy here,

seasonal greetings...

Welcome good sir.

Nice cars RTs.

Pics?

Problems could be the back brakes. How long has it been since they were replaced/serviced? I had many problems with the rear drums on my old RT sticking and grinding.

Welcome aboard sailor.

Where does the sound come from, the engine? How long you had it as it sounds like it needs a look over from a mechanic if you have grinding noises and brakes that dont work.

Not sure mate.

Have you jacked it up and checked the wheels rotate freely (and by freely they should just about complete one revolution when span by hand)?

It could be the brakes, but youre saying its just on the bumps? Get a garage to look at the mounts.

That reminds me, when I first got mine, upon turning right at nearly-to-full lock, I used to get a horrible grinding noise. Baffled me for ages. Turns out it was the exhaust rubbing the gearbox mount. Quite a common fault on those shape Clios.

Nice tidy looking car by the looks of it.

Any other plans? Id lower it a tad and maybe colour code the mirrors. You could get a phase 2 style grille too.

mk 1 clio offset are 35-38, ide say your wheels are scraping your arches somewhere. look in your arch for signs of tyre scrapage, or get a couple of your mates in the boot n see if its touchin anywhere.

ps welcome to cliosport!

I would give it straight back, friend or no! Sounds like youve landed yourself a right dog (no offence), within a few days of ownership youve discovered it needs 4 shocks and has brakes that dont work. Think what the future has in store, i assure you it wont be bright or even orange

my idea is to park it back on his drive and ask for my money (bad idea - undriveable at the moment) or get them to come and get it, repair it, and give it back to me.

me and cars dont seem to get on right now! been carless for 4 months! took elephant 3 to decide to write my corsa off.
