Hello, first post so I'm finding my way around at the moment. Looking to purchase a '200' probably a 59 / 10 plate. I am trying to ascertain the future expense on the one I am looking at and so trying to work out when the cambelt should be changed can anyone help or point me in the direction of where I can find the answer? Is there anything else I should look for / beware of mechanically on the '200' that perhaps I should allow for in budgeting? It may seem I am being a bit pedantic but went to look at a 197 priced around £7k to find out it needed two new tyres, a service, the cambelt changing as well as taxing which suddenly made it quite an expensive purchase relative to the initial price and gets you close to a sorted '200'. I have learnt therefore it is extremely difficult to compare the value of these cars in adverts and you need to add up everything that needs doing before viewing even!

Courtesy of Mark CUP-

in terms of a 200- Assuming you want a good spec ( some arent that fussed )- the general consensus is that Speedlines, cup chassis & Recaros are the minimum spec ( as well as full fat as opposed to a CUP) is what most go for-

you really need circa 11k-12k to get a decent one-

Weak points are STILL the gearbox syncros- check for them- there are some other minors but not THAT important.
Servicing is annual or 12k

Cambelt is 5 years or 72k whatever comes first.

all of the above for a 197-

if you want a top spec R27 or late 197 cup budget between 7.5 & 8.5k
Check out 197.net as well as theres some owners on there that sell a bit cheaper for whatever reason they need to sell the car quicker-
