evening all, just recently ive been lookin into the phase2 clio 172's,
i got a very inviting insurance quote today from adrian flux after this particular 172 caught my eye on autotrader (posted link below), so i rung the chap for quick chat and ive got to ring him back tommorow n may consider going to view it.
but i thought i would get stocked up on more information/ammo before hand .im not really up on my renaults, although ive previously owned 2 106's ,so im aware of the general french build quality issues.lol but i was wondering if there is anything you guys may know of that i definatly need to look out for.? obviously first thing is to ask him tommorow about service history because it doesnt mention anything of any in the advert ,which does quite concern me,which leads onto the fact that its done 60k so if it hasnt already surely that will be borderline needing the cambelt change in the near future!? am i looking at alot of expense on these models?

any help will be much appreciated. thanks Graeme, 'GC'

Theres a useful buyers guide worth looking over that may help. Belts is obviously a biggie, along with general clutch/box/exhaust wear. If it has no history you can check for advisories on the mot website which may help highlight any prev gray areas on the car. On the whole these arent put together too badly with some members on here getting good reliability (if looked after) over the 100k mark.

well i rang the guy earlier n checked the MOT history online (great help that mate). it came back saying it had failed every MOT since the first one, almost nearly every MOT included the brakes and the tyres as one of the fails. that to me says its been driven very hard and just generally neglected, and as i thought there was no service history to back it up, nor for proof of the cambelt ever been done and just to top it off on the last MOT one of the advisories was 'sill damage'!?..im not buyin a gamble like that.lol
so its a no go on this occasion but i shall keep looking and saving at the same time :) thanks for your help
