Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D AF Lens

  Fiesta ST-3
A good purchase? (I already know it is :rasp:)

Will it work on my D5000 and any one know the best place to get one?

I have the 50mm and also a 35mm f2 much prefer the quality of the 35 and its a bit wider (actually about 50mm on a crop). But I do love the 50, who doesnt?!

I already have a wide angle lens. I want a nifty fifty and was just curious on the above points.

yes you want the nifty :p its a very nice cheap lens, great for dof. it won't auto focus on your d5000 though, so you might want to consider the 35mm which will.

Mines the worst autofocusing lens I've ever touched. Worse than my damn kit lens. Going from my USM'ed lenses back to that things just pure pain. Do want 50 1.2.

The build quality of the 35mm is said to be better than the 50mm, plus with a crop sensor (your d5000) it's actually more like a 50mm.

I love mine - it's fast, focus is bang on, build quality is spot-on, lovely smooth bokeh, great for portraits - plus hook it up to some extension tubes and it's a pretty good macro lens too!

It wont focus as its not AF-S

Go for the 35mm!

+1

35mm is ALOT cheaper and just as good.

If you can do without AF the 50mm is a wonderful sharp little Gem. But if you need AF go for the 35mm. The 50mm AF-S is a great lens, higher build quality too - but so much more expensive!

I love my 50mm, even on my D40.

Yes, it doesn't auto focus, but when dealing with such a shallow DOF surely MF is more accurate anyway? Can be a PITA for moving subjects though

Not really, autofocus is much more accurate unless you've got a medium format sized viewfinder or a rangefinder. Manual focusing with SLR's is a right pita imo.

Surely 35mm is a better size than 50mm, especially on a crop.

If canon did a 35mm as cheap as the 50mm I'd rather have that.
