Nikon D40 or D50

Is the D40 replacing the D50? If so would it be worth getting a D40?

yes the D40 is replacing the D50..i was thinking of going for the 40.but managed to get the D50 for 377 at currys with kit lens 18-55.

D50, I read somewhere that the D40 is only compatible with AF-S lenses... the D50 takes AF and AF-S...

Get a D50 quick before they dry up, I think they are actually cheaper than the D40 at the moment.

The D40 has to be used in manual focus mode to use the 50mm f1.8 (the best lens money can buy) as it's AF-S only. That along would be reason enough for me to get a D50.

D50 + 18-55mm lens,
tamiron (sp) 70-200mm lens,
case,
2 x 1gb memory sd cards

I'll look forward to opening them on Christmas day!

I would have gone for a canon just to take advantage of the great range of Canon glass though.

Yeah the L series stuff is fapping expensive, i've managed 2 so far, the wife has no idea what they cost - i'd lose my nads if she found out, bless her she thinks the 100-400 L IS USM cost 350 quid Its worth the premium though, got some fabulous shots in Kenya this year.

They are silly expensive at times - my 300mm IS f4L Prime cost nearly twice as much as the body, but I love it, as I do with the 70-200L. Both are so sharp and focus so fast. I am going to add another one to the collection after Xmas in the form of a 17-40 L and then start saving up for a better body.

I have lied a few times to freinds and family on what I payed for the 300mm, though L Glass is for life not just for Christmas. As you say - The shots you get make it worth it.
