You clearly have an eye for a good composition (I love the lines in pic 2, draws your eye right into the picture), I hope the D50 serves you as well as it has for me so far.

i'll get that lens off you tomorrow!

still getting to grips with it - hopefully once i become well accusomed to it i can tone things down on photoshop!!

with it been such a large lens will it not give a "warped" effect?

No warping. I think you might be thinking of super-wide angle shots, but warping only happens at 10mm or thereabouts (even wider than the kit lens)

probably a load of bullshit i've heard but...

i was told that if it has a high range (75-300 as aposed to something like 150-300) then obviously you need more lens or bigger curves on them which can result is sort of a "fish eye" effect

Never heard that before, the 18-200s and 70-300s are very popular and both have a big zoom range.
