No claims question

  182
Right, bare with me this might be a little hard to explain but;

I passed my test in may 08 and had a slight tap in November 08 ( 5 mph b******s claimed whiplash; and for £10,800) I then drove my car until scrapping it in January 2011 under the same insurer. This apparentley gave me one years no claims as I didn't complete the whole year. I bought my 172 last week and obviously an insurance policy too (under a different insurer), so my question basically is; Come May 2012 aslong as I have no incidents will I have one years no claims or two? Does it have to be continous? With the same insurer?

Doesn't really matter as such just intrigued! As I've asked several people and had different answers!

insurers may ask for proof so you have what your previous insurer will provide you proof of.

1 year, in order to claim a years no claim you would of needed to be with the same insurer for the entire duration, even if you end the policy then take another one back out.

The simplest way to clarify is to phone your various insurers and ask for your 'no claims bonus certificates'. if you get 2, then its two, and 1/1 etc... I'm slightly confuse by the question but if you had 6 months with one company and 6 months with another, this should qualify for a year. As an example, a few years ago I was driving company cars, half way through a 12 month cycle I left and went to another company for 6 months before leaving, i then took out a private policy with admiral and they just added the two together. Generally to accrue ncb, you need to have an insurance policy and the year that you want to qualify for a years ncb will have to be in a year block. to be honest though, for questions like this your MUCH better off just calling your previous insurerers and asking what you've accrued. hope that helps
