*No Power To HeadUnit*

ello, rite first big problem here in the newish car, (95 rsi)

ok rite have had a sony minidisc hu for few years now, never NEVER given me any probs wotsoever!!

Now basically i have been running 6by9s off hu and then using an amp to power me sub, couple of days ago i wired up hu 2 also power 2 small speakers in front, no probs at all

now 2nite, park up and leave car, come back 2 car and start it, go 2 turn headunit on and no power at all,

so im thinking mayb when i was pissing about with it the otha day i loosened things and now wires r loose, so i struggle around getin hot and stressed pulling it out, (wires r all neat so have not much movement 2 get hu out)

anyway wires all seem fine, constant power and engine power all connected still, so im a bit confused now!! anyway afta getin pissed off i decided 2 leave it 4 2nite



ok i know first of all i should check fuses b4 anything else! (am 2 knakered 2nite) all other electrics work but in haynes think it says fuse for hu is separate 2 anything else anyway

Fuse should b under bonnet near washer bottle i think??

or in car under glove box? haynes makes it sound like near washer bottle although i havent seen fuses there b4,

Anyway i will check fuse for hu from car, and then i will check the fuse at back of the hu

Now if the fuses r fine then what else could it be????

If all power wires seem fine and hu was working fine b4, why not now?



any ideas what might have happened, im hoping its just a fuse gone as hu isnt use 2 powering 4 speakers!!

rite ok update here, 8:30am and i go outside quickly b4 work,
checked fuses underbonnet first then realised im looking at wrong 1s

so under the glovebox i go and check the last fuse in the line for radio, 10amp fuse is fine (enjoyed using the lil plastic remover tool though

anyway bollox i think and pull headunit out, rite pain in the arse playing around with the wires at the back when u dont have much slack

anyway pulled out the fuse and its blown, 10amp again, have no spares so will have 2 get sum later on

now not 100% why its blown, fuse at backof unit has never blown in all the 3 years of owning it, and its taken a beating, been in a couple of crashes etc

anyway reasons 4 blowing, on sat i wire up hu to also power the 2 standard old front speakers, that goes 2 plan and alls fine, then on sunday when i start engine and go 2 turn hu on , no power

now i guess i have been getting lazier, in the past i have always completely turned hu off b4 turning engine off, but lately i have been leaving it playing then it just going off when engine goes off

will try new fuse init and will c what happens, got 2 piss about with wires again now as sum have pulled apart grrrrrrrrrr

AHH CRAP, blown it again

just took hu out and played about with it, ok only things that were attached were RCAs and thats it, nothing else connected, now assoon as i pushed in the fuse it blew ?????????



whats happening :-( i have 1 left b4 i need 2 buy sum more, so im guna disconnect everything from back of hu and put fuse in, then if it blows sumin is seriously up with it

then ill start by putting in the radio lead cos that should b earthed, then prob chuck rcas back in, then unwire front speakers so when i push the block back in they wont b connected

cos i wired up front speakers on sat and on sun it went, so mayb thats whats doing it! who knows?



any ideas??????

There is a short to earth somewhere on the live feed. If you cant find where run a new feed from the fuse box to the radio. If it isnt that then the radio is knackered and shorting internally but thats unlikely.

OK UPDATE:

I disconnected everything, put 10amp fuse in back of hu, then connected up the plug that goes in back, so it had yellow,red,blue,black wires connected

fuse blew straight away so its not 2 do with the speakers, so what could it be?

The ignition wasnt on so only should have had constant power getting to it!
So now what? I am prob guna get a voltmeter in a minute and check power that is coming from constant wire and also ignition wire

any suggestions what I need 2 do
