No service history

Just wondering how much this affects the value of the car to a trained eye.

My car only had 3 service stamps from new when I bought it, but the previous owner had got reciepts for oil changes and also a cambelt change from a reputable garage along with another oil change. So for me on te Milage it was on was good enough for me and the engine sounded spot on.

I have changed my oil every 5k since owning it and its now on 70 od k, still on original dephaser and sounds spot on since I changed to elf oil.

But obviously I've got no proof as I always service my cars myself.

Would it be worth me getting a service done by a garage to get me a few more stamps or is it not worth bothering after some have been missed?

I plan to keep the car for atleast another 2 years anyway so not sure how much a 182 will be worth by then anyway.

If you've serviced it yourself you will have receipts?

Personally, for cars like the older 172/182's, as long as the cambelt is done properly, & their are receipts for oil, i would judge on condition, not stamps :)

Going by personal experience service history only goes so far.
My last 2 cars one had 15 years of stamps/receipts/mots etc and every month something broke on it costing me 200-600 a month in parts/fluids.
My most recent car has little to no service history but is hassle free and sounds a lot healthier then my old car.

As long as receipts are ther for the major things then don't worry too much about it.

I agree with everyone else, keep lots of receipts and continue looking after it and the car will sell itself. I'd buy one without FSH right now if I had the money.

I bought mine on miles, history and all the original wallets and keys etc. Condition was the biggest factor for me though.

Personally I was only looking for a car with FSH as you can't trust what people say unless they can provide proof of receipts. I'll be doing regular oil changes inbetween full services at the garage and keeping all paperwork for the parts I buy. Obviously condition of the vehicle is also important....

You are aware that you can buy a 'full service history' off eBay lol.

Condition is more important than anything else imho.

Yes of course you can but all the history matched up to where the vehicle was originally purchased and receipts from services were included to match the stamps in the book.

I think a car with FSH, two keys, all the paperwork etc with couple of minor bodywork issues is better than a totally mint car with an 'owners promise' that it's been serviced? I think it's always going to be hit or miss buying a second hand car, it's all about going with your gut feeling though.

Hmm don't think I've got the oil receipts actually but will do from now on lol. I will keep receipts for major things. Got 2 keys, all the original stuff from the boot and leather wallet.

Hopefully the car will still be mint in 2 years or so and I'll have a few more receipts etc

if i bought a car that had millions of receipts, i would want to know what the f**k was wrong with it.
i do my own mini services ...usually oil etc. but im taking it to a garage next week just so i can get the stamp. its 1 of those things where i know it has bee looked after but because there is a stamp missing someone will want £200 off or something daft if i sell it.
