Norton security for PC

GR7

  Shiny red R32
Can someone please advise me on a new security system for my PC. I had Norton last time and some folk reckon it isn't the best one and I hope people here can guide me!

Thanks

Norton is poo, AVG free works just as well and doesn't hog resource, couple that up with either spybot search & destroy or ad-aware and your safe as houses.

should have a sticky for AV's as this question comes up quite often ive noticed :rasp::rasp:

You will also need a firewall as above are only anti-virus programs but if your replacing Norton Internet Security then that also has a firewall. I would suggest something like ZoneAlarm which is free.

You haven't mentioned how you connect to the net so it's worth noting that if you use a router that has NAT then you don't need a firewall.

Why would NAT have anything to do with security? security through obscurity at best. NAT is just a protocol that allows network of private IP address to be set up using a single real IP address.

Always worth having a software based firewall installed, to manage outbound connections.

If you have NAT then any machines connected to it are basically invisible. I haven't used a software firewall for years.

I never have and probably never will use any anti-virus software. As years have gone on and I've gained experience, the number of times my computer has had a virus has gone down. I can't even remember the last time I had one. Anti-virus software hogs too much rescources IMO so I just don't want to use it.

No-one's deleted all my files, had my credit card details or stolen pics of my gf either (that I know of!)
