Not going into gear! Help!

My brother's ford orion is crunching badly when going into gears (all of them). There is still resistance in the clutch pedal.

What could it be??

New clutch cable check the adjsuters are working.

Might be a failed clutch as well.

I thought if the clutch cable had gone then the pedal would just fall flat to the floor?

No only if it has snapped but cables streth as well (sp)
