Firstly, due to change of circumstances and the need for a practical 5 door car, I'm gutted to be having to sell my 172 flamer after nearly 4 years of thorough enjoyment.
Secondly, this forum has been a pleasure to frequent, although I have been more of a lurker over the years than a heavy poster, when I have required any advice the responses have always been positive and helpful. It still amazes me how complete strangers will go out of their way to help a fellow enthusiast in their pursuit for answers!
Now onto the car, a mark 2, 51 plate 172 which has just eased past the 100k mark. Condition is good, completely standard with the usual age related marks you would expect from a car this age, shines up lovely after a good polish. Inside the car is immaculate except for the drivers right thumb grip on the steering wheel is half torn away. The rear seats look like they have never really been used!
When I viewed the car there was no service book, however based on the receipts and invoices present, including the all important Cambelt change, I decided to buy on condition and it being a straight car. I have since maintained and addressed any issues along the way so there is plenty of invoices/ receipts of work carried out. The belts were changed including dephasher at btm a couple of years ago so good for a few more years. Disks and pads all round are good and its been serviced regularly with the right oil and service kits from renault. I have replaced lots of other parts such as the handbrake cable, battery, springs, shocks etc etc. The mot is not up until around June next year and tax until early next year I think. The only thing I was planning to do was change to winter tyres as my fronts are running low anyway but I won't be bothering now.
How much should I be looking at based on the details provided?
Now I need to factor in how much to knock off for my brother who has expressed an interest in buying! He is not really into cars like I am, but knows that it would have been looked after and his current car is ready for the knackers yard! He's looking to replace pretty soon and would get a flight from Aberdeen where he currently lives and drive the 430 miles, 9 hours drive back!!
So what would be a fair price to sell to a brother?! Or is it just a bad idea?! I kind of like the thought of it staying in the family and maybe later down the line I could buy it back, its kind of funny how you get attached to certain cars, especially an old clio but I've just loved owning one.
