I saw a good webby a while back where you could make up a number plate with coloured trims GB signs, text.. etc etc and they send em you..

Anybody know which one it was?

are the "old style" uk plates on that site still legal? i reckon they look well nice on black cars!

most of the plates on these websites will be show use only

the law is very strict now, we cant even make 2 tone digit plates anymore @ work

so what if i used standard plates and text etc but had a thin black border round and some small text on bottom (where my old plates said Reg Vardy).
Would that be legal?

damn... does any1 no if the following is road legal?

i want:

my reg in 3d text, parental advisory image, black border and cliosport.net written at the bottom

if the above isnt road legal, can u tell me the bits that r?

border - legal - has to be minimum of 10mm away from any digit

phrase etc at bottom of plate - perfectly legal, distance away from digits as above

3d text - no longer legal according to merseyside police officer who checks our number plate log book @ work

images at side of plate - not 100% certain on this, there was a law came in saying you could only have euro logo or nothin, then that changed to country flags, but i think its been further relaxed so that anythin is now allowed but im not certain, i know we only make a few @ work, like st georges cross, union jack, welsh dragon etc

Not 100% sure but i think for the plate to be completely legal it must show the postcode or the name of the place that manufactured it at the bottom not any other text. I reakon you would be fine with renault but something like 2 fast 4 u would deem it illegal, as would honeycomb back grounds, 3d digits and anything other than a euro symbol.

They have to meet strict British Standards now for a reason, thats so they can read it to catch you speeding or check tax etc.

Ive always run reduced size plain text numberplates on my cars and mostly got away with it, jus dont take the piss with the italic fonts etc. However, saying that some cops are strict as and will happily do u if your number plate doesnt comply.

I once had to appear in court for numberplates (intent to decieve/fraud type charge) because my private plate at the time was ever so slightly altered . Got off scott free mind but i wouldnt bother doing that again!

Ive had loads of moody plates on different cars over the years. As long as you dont go stupid, keep the lettering size legal and dont go over the top with the "phrase" section at the bottom, you wont get a tug for them being on your car. But if you drive like a tw*t then most traffic cops will use any excuse to pull you, so not a good idea if you drive everywhere at mach one, IMHO.

i just ordered mine last night. Just plain background, plain legal lettering in standard font and no italics etc. Small black border with Clio 16v in small letters underneath. Hope thats okay! Mind you - its only £26 quid or summat so hardly breaks the bank. I genuinly need them as the ones I have on my newly purchased car are fooked. Back one has a gap between the perspex plate and the paper behind so water has gotten in. the result is a horrible brown-stained mess! Front one just needs a new Sticky pad on it but figured Id just replace them anyway!

Cheers

Oh, forgot to say, had mine made up at Carnisour (sp), and they make you sign a disclaimer that they are for show perposes only. £40 a pair and decent quality, ive had loads of different sets off of them in the past. Heres a couple of the more reacent ones:

L11 YJC - LiLY JC

C11 OVG - CLiO V6

Unfortunately you cant see on those photos, but the valver plates have "cliosport" at the bottom and the V6 plates have the "frogs b****cks" at the bottom.

It tells you what is legal and what is not!

Not every option it doesnt, such as borders etc . I just ordered some from there and I wasnt sure if it was legal or not. The only thing it mentions is legal is the lettering really.

What you reckon? and what would happen if i got pulled ( told to change them perhaps)

182storm, just seen your post.

I have "Its Rude To Stare!" on the bottom of my front plate and "Lower Than Your Grannys Nipples" at the back, never had no trouble with the police yet, but I have noticed a few smiles from drivers behind in traffic.

MOT wise as long as the spacing and the letters are of the correct type then they are fine.

youd more than likely get a VDRS to correct the defective plates, within 14 days and get it stamped at a MOT station and send the copy back to the police.

GT Grafix are the best IMO for getting custom plates.

There is a black 206 near me with oversized numbers spaced like this: P 3UAN (he is called Euan) and the 3 is not a normal 3 and looks almost like an E and he has had it like than for as long as I have had my car (over 2 years) and nobody has ever said anything to him.

Depends on the mood of the police if they spot you I think, or if you drive stupidly they will probably stop you.

That can be true for illegal plates/zorsts...

Mate had a lil plate for his bike. Never had trouble, until one day he was caught overtaking on white line.

Occifer gave him a choice:
To be done for the illegal plate (no points at the time)
OR
To be done for crossing solid line.

(what a nice occifer he turned out to be?!)

My plates arrived this morning as I was leaving for work. They look pretty plain but look nice. Just my reg in standard letters, black border and Clio 16v in small letters at the middle-bottom.

Didn;t egt chance to look properly but they appear to have some kind of film on them and someone has drawn a black line with marker pen down the middle of each plate! Is this normal and is there indeed a peelable film on them or something? hehe

yes its a film you take off, black line prob just mean they have been checked, i stuck mine on to save drilling them.
