Mate of mine is getting a 172 so we took a trip down to the local dealers.....

Took my car there, no where to park so just dumped it in the middle of the place...

We got out and started to look at this 172 Cup, To my amazment a sales guy walked out to us after a few minutes.....

Come out, "want to swap yours for this then"

No no no, my mate here is after one.....

"Ah i see, nice 182 u got there"

Its not a 182, its a 172

"You sure?"

Yes i am......

"ok... u changed the wheels tho right?"

Erm no? Its the same model as this.... the 172 Cup

"Ah ok, well this one here is the 172 cup, bla bla bla, Like yours but has a diferant spec list"

Erm... its the same car

"Is it? oh yeh....."

Hmmmmmmmm lets go boys!

Dosnt it scare u lot that the dealers, and this being one of the renault sport dealerships know f**k all LOL!!!!!

Thats why its always worth doing your homework before you go to look at a car. If you dont know any better, a dealer can fob you off with all sorts of bullsh*t.

Doesnt surprise me. When I told the salesman who I bought my car off, that ages ago I used to own a Renault 11 Turbo, he was like "eerrr what car was that???? Never heard of that model??!?"

Unbelievable come of these staff at dealers.

I remember i went into Brighton Renualt back in 2002 and the sales guy thought that i stuck a bonnet vent onto the 16v as he said that only the williams edition should have them:confused:

by chance did you read my thread bout the bloke lookin in my engine at renault bham and complimenting me on my nice valver and i jus looked at him and sed... its a 1.2 mate

haha

Dealers do take the piss a bit. I know this is not renault related, but my m8 took his mums ford ka to the dealer to get a puncture repair.

While he was waiting, he saw a ford sport ka and asked if he could test drive it. (i dunno why he chose such a gay car) but the salesman joined him on the test drive, when asked what 0-60 it was he said about 8sec. My m8 seemed to believe him and said that the car was pretty quick.

Later on when i heard about this i decided to look up the specs of the car, it turned out to be in the region of 12sec, thats slower than my 1.4 RT.

How can a salesman give such false information.

i went to my local reno dealer to get a new wing mirror glass after an encounter with a tree. He assured me my wingmirrors were not electric and not heated. I suppose an arctic 182 is pretty close colour wise to a mondial cup but come on, the computers got all my details on it man....

I put him right and saved £60 in the process lol

I dont really think it is a problem if the dealer knows sweet FA about the cars.

When I go to a dealer I already know exactly what car I want, exactly what options I want and exactly what I want to pay for it. I have always done masses of research before I get to the dealers. The salesman is just there to negotiate a price with.

I certainly dont walk in and say "I want a car that does x, y and z what do you recommend?".

In fact I have ordered my last 3 new cars and most recently my new motorcycle over the phone without seeing anything in the flesh.

Its when the mechanics dont know their stuff that you have to worry.

It doesnt inspire much confidence when you know more than them!

If they knew more about there products Im sure they could sell them better.

"Id like some infomation about the Clio trophy"... " oh I dont think they make one but we do sell a Megane trophy I think!!!"

lol thats funny

when i bought my mk1 172 from a dealer the sales guy said that its only had a cassette player!!

i said thers a multi changer under the drivers seat, he said no only a cassette.

so i got in and showed him

he was embaressed!!!!

I went into the local dealership a few days ago enquiring about the Trophy only to be told its not on sale yet :eek:but they will take my details and post out a brochure in due course...
Couldnt be bothered arguing the guys that some people have actually taken delivery of their Trophys.
