o2/lambda sensor fault

  182 and cherokee 4.0
had my car hooked up to the rs tuner and it says there is an o2 sensor fault (the car has a de-cat by the way).

is this actually a fault with the sensor or is it just because i don't have a cat?

if it's a fault how much is it to get new sensors and is it easy to change them?

thanks in advance for any advice, tony :)

that's my thread on lambdas and where I got mine.

If your MPG is down then your upstream lambda could be gone. The fault you've got is almost certinally due to the useless 2nd (downstream) lambda. Have you got the emissions light on the dash? To clear it, bung the downstream lambda hole (bungs can be had off ebay), but leave the second lambda plugged in, just cable tie it up in a bag somewhere. then obviously clear the fault.
If you remove the downstream lambda (as in disconnect it) then I think it throws up a fault for that too.

Mark One could you put a link to the type of bung i need please. will try this and see if it helps. thanks

Is it a 182 or a 172, I have a feeling you can't trick and remove the downstream cat on the 182. Ok on the 172 though

it's a 182. so what can you do then? will this give me any loss of performance???

Already answered you by email, you always need a good working FRONT Lambda sensor.
Otherwise it wont pass MOT and have less performance.

cheers henk i will have a look when i get home. how do i tell if the front sensor is ok?

Then it doesn't show up as a fault code. If you see something like O2F sensor fault, you need a new one.
Quite common actually.

hi henk. i re-connected the rs tuner and the o2 sensor (front) fault has gone now since i erased and refreshed the codes?

it now says initialisation backup memory and also electronic throttle control limits acquired (not a fault)

OK, all normal. Now the O2 sensor fault will probably come back which if it does, means you need to replace it.

cheers for that. so i take it the car will not be suffering any performance loss at the minute? do i need to send you another live data log?

can someone also point me in the right direction of a front lambda sensor for the 182 please?

Both sensors are the same part no. bosch no. 0258006046 they are £69.09 inc vat from your local andrew pages in newburn or newcastle. Hope that helps :p

oh... anyone got any experience of fitting these? i am not even sure where the front sensor is. can only seem to locate the one that goes into the cat?
