Over taking a bus today near rev limit in third went for 4th got 2nd!

car wouldnt start for a while when it eventually did was ticking over a 3000,

turned it off again left it for a few minutes and re started it now seems to be fine,

Has this ever happened for to anyone?

And what should i be looking for i terms of damage?

Lucky lucky.

Damage could be gearbox problems occuring, however nothing major to worry about. Everyone has always selected a wrong gear at some point.

Although going down to 2nd from 4th must have put some strain on the engine.

Wouldn't it have been strain on the Gearbox ?

Not the engine, the gearbox would have taken the brunt of it wouldn't it ?

Unless rev counter went off scale :(

No mate, shouldnt think so, If the gear was actually ingauged properly with the clutch it's the engine that is going to MASSIVELY over rev. Which could do things like snap conrods, jump teeth on the timing belt, etc etc

You must've really trashed it to get 2nd instead of 4th as there'd be a fair ammount of resistance and people wonder why they kill gearboxes. Once engaged its fine though, just engine damage left really.

How long it you let it overrev for? Should be ok but don't make a habit of it.

not for long it pulled the revs way past 8000 then it sort of popped out itself before i had chance to push the clutch down, horrible noise i really thought id buggered it!

listen for engine tappyness/top end noise.. i've had a k series engine the fella did the same thing and it caused a hydraulic to collapse
