Oil system questions

  Renault Clio 1.8 16v
So i’m planning on getting an oil filter relocation kit since changing the filter on a valver is a pain.

1. I want to install oil temp and pressure senders to get a more accurate reading than the stock senders, I’m wondering if i need aftermarket gauges for that or if it’s possible to wire the senders to the stock gauges to keep the oem look.

2. Should i add an oil cooler while i’m at it? I’ve heard the f7p needs one to stay together on trackdays?

1. I think the sensors themselves aren't too bad, more the gauges. so i'd say you want decent gauges and stock senders. not something I ever worried about though really.

2. the stock water cooler on the oil setup if you have it is pants so bin that off and yeah while you are there a mocal or similar wouldn't do any harm

Thanks, Coops! :)

Thank you.

It’s just to be able to monitor oil temp and pressure better than stock.

Since it’s mostly a street car and an occasional track car, I think a thermostatic sandwich plate is the best option. What size cooler do you recommend?

I used to run a pretty small 13 row and about 150mm wide if that on a 235mm one now I think it is

Alright thanks.

I have one more question, my valver has now 165k km (~102k miles) and I’m wondering if it is still safe to run it on track or if I shouldn’t be tracking it anymore?
You all have more experience and knowledge about those engines than I do

Be fine, engine will go forever so long as you look after it. Regular oil changes etc. 100k is barely run in, I use my 206k 182 for trackdays from time to time

Going for low budget:
Would a 13 row 115mm wide mocal cooler be enough? Or is the 235mm necessary?

Or a 7 row 235mm to fit in the small space between the bonnet and the bumper on the mk1s. This way there would be perfect airflow to the cooler.

@Booty

I went lower, mounted below the cross member. Gets plenty of airflow from lower cutouts in bumper

This pic was before I fitted it

That’s right, but I wanted to keep it more hidden. The technical inspection in my country is very strict about everything that isn’t oem.

Do you think the small coolers (10 row 115mm or 7 row 235mm) are enough for the f7p or not?
