Old Tyres for racing...

I have kept my old yokies for racing at santa pod in theory...

1) is there any point... they have very little tread left on them so a few burn outs and theyll be slicks, will this be a good / bad thing to try?

2) should i sod it and just race with my road tyres?

Ive got my old 15s (as youve seen) and you know how bald those tyres are!!!!! Im plannning on using them for 1/4s and possibly tracks

Id be interested to know this too, thinking of getting an old set of 15s or something with totally bald tires for trackdays and so on

Yeah, if its a dry day then you can smoke the old tyres, get some heat into them and get good grip off the line...

Id keep them.

Just remember to take a good spare! I did a trackday last month and squeezed the last few miles out of my tyres before junking them for the 17"s. Got a puncture the nery next day!

Yeah but Im sure if you can afford a Cup and afford to go to track events a few hundred more for propper tyres isnt going to rape your bank balance is it?

ok then what dimension tyres do i need to get then... i know that slicks have funny measurements...

its for a cup... my road tyres are 195x45x16.

Yeah, for trackdays Ive got a set of 15" alloys to fit tyres onto, as this is a much better idea then trashing your expensive road tyres.

But... we were talking aboiut 1/4 mile racing here, not trackdays and most people just use their road wheels & tyres.

Get a set of 15s and go for 195/50s like Ive done, as theyre cheap as chips!

give them your rd tyre dimentions, then can still give you teh correct tyre as they dont use aspect ratios, they use total diameters.

ACB10s......nice

17% tread to be rd legal, tyre pattern that is.

i wouldnt waste money on slicks personally....well not new ones....s/h scrubbed test tyres are far cheaper, oh....and my 13" wheels makes it much cheaper lol.
