just took the car into the garage today for it's mot was serviced at the same place last week, has picked up two problems one, due to the de-cat the oxygen sensor has been burnt out !! And two the ball joint on the drivers side front is on way out? How much you think these should cost each? And I'll tell you his quote

If you fit the ball joint yourself, £12 on the dot, cant remember the lambda sensor price but its a case of unplug, unscrew, rescrew, replug done.

at a guess givin the usual cost of a sensor (£40 ish) then £55 would be fair.

wants 370 for oxygen sensor as he called it an apparently it'll need remapping? An said ball joint could be couple of hundred WTF

around the £250 mark fitted off the top of my head is what i'd be (don't quote me on the LOL!)

£68.19+vat for the arm and ball joint complete
£50 for a lambda
3 tops hours to do the lot

Oxygen sensor costs about £60 from memory ball join as above is about £12 ?

Remapping excuse sounds like b****cks.

Lol, no chance, its just a sensor that detects the amount of carbon going out etc,

I personally would do it myself, you will save on labour then

I got two ball joints for £11 and a lambda sensor is around £55. So no more than £70 in parts and should only be 2hrs max labour (say £40 a hour) So all in total should only cost around £150 + vat

right, I swapped my lambdas to see if it made a difference when she was running really poorly, and it made none.. they are an identical part, therefore if the precat one can resist that sort of abuse, the after cat one can too.

also those sensors are literally a 15 minute job to change, just get her on axle stands, spanner on it, remember you may need to tap the spanner with a hammer to "shock" them out - JMS also gave me this advice as they can be a total $%$£ to get out by swinging on it - worked for me.

the ball joint I don't think I'd do myself due to the agro, so yeah get the garage to do that but ren7oaks quoted me 1 hour labour tops for mine.. so that's £40 + VAT for the hour, then the part.. ring renault, find out how much the part is, and get your lambda sensor from NW Performance's website for around 50 quid delivered.

all in I wouldn't expect to pay above £150 for the lot.

as for remapping, I think your mechanic has been exposed to too many exhaust fumes himself, either that or he thinks you're a total fool. either way if that garage is trying to have you over so badly I for one would never go there again.

as mentioned go rentec if you're close by even for small things, I travelled 200+ miles to get them to do my cambelt and aux belt change, they are a very recommended and reputable specialist on here. :)
