One question...

Xmas pressie for my G/F, she wants a decent camera. Shes coming from a point and shoot digital camera, and i want to get her an DSLR. Knowing very little about cameras, ive had a look on the Canon shop on ebay, and the 400D +18-55 sells well. Is this a wise purchase, easy to use and a good next step up from a point and shoot? Budget is ideally £250 max

For that price you really only have 2 options, 400D and D40.

Both are good, both will take fine pics, neither is better so go purchase!

the 1000d is a pretty good camera and is very similar to the 400d it also has live view which makes the transition from point and shoot a lot easier it's around 300 in argos at the moment and i beleive canon have a £30 cashback promo atm so total price would be around 270.
