Ok mate, i'll let you listen, but it's defo quieter and the quality is defo worse on the right hand side.

If the speaker distorts at high volumes on one side but not the other then i'd say it has either been wired wrong, it's shorting out, or the output from the head unit/amplifier has a problem.

Is this at all volumes or only when being played very loud? As some crossovers have a protection system to stop you blowing the tweeters through distorsion and will reduce the output by up to 12 db.

I had a listen tonight as the fronts were also cutting out at higher volumes (amp is overheating) and the right hand side seems to be slightly quieter at lower volumes and more equal at louder ones which tbh has confused me more!

John, if they are leveling out at higher volumes but different at lower (ya didnt mention that at hermi) then it sounds like a dry solder joint or simmilar, along with the overheating (faulty IC by the looks of it) either way I think the amp will need repaired/replaced.

Only other thing it could have been would have been the wrong ohmage, but certainly the wiring that I could see was all correct.

^Yep i will, but it was fine all the way home at a reasonable and happy volume for me.

is the amp properly ventilated or does it have a cooling fan which may be defective?

Well its got a fan and we had everything out the boot and it was still doing it with the boot open (at 9pm in Edinburgh!) so its defo got cold air. The fan spins but im wondering if the air ducts could be clogged, its not been used for at least a year.
