There will be a hidden system recovery partition on the main OS drive. There is normally an application pre-installed that allows you to burn 1 copy (and one only) of a recovery disk from the hidden partition.

Beat me to it ^^

They are no longer (all manufacturers) providing OS/Restore disks.

There will more then likely be a hidden partition on the drive - which you can access by pressing F10 or something during boot. This restores your PC/Laptop back to how they provided it.

There however should be an option to create \restore disks. You can only do this once tho !

No more OS disks are provided which is shite!!

Just had to go thru a complaint and the manufacuturer charged £40 to replace missing damaged disks. So keep them safe!

Well actually you could complain to microsoft, my mate did it and got a xp disk with service pack 2 on it sent to him for free:) worth a go

Why are they not supplying disks?? So you can buy a PC with an OS on it but with no disk, if something goes badly wrong u might have to buy a XP disk for 100 odd quid!! how does that work???!!!!!

whats this hidden partition that the others are on about?

Yup basicly that is correct.

NO OS discs are provided - its to cut down on copying etc

Yes, if your HDD fails and you have not created a Restore CD then you maybe liable to pay a "handling fee" from the manufacturer to send you a new copy (minimum charge £30)

They will not supply you with an OS CD, but a restore disc.
You cannot ask for a OS, even tho you may have the legitimate COA.

The hidden partition is basicly this restore CD on your HDD. Its hidden to an extent so that you do not ovewrite it etc...

So just be carefull lol, if you dont make a restore CD it could end up costing u money!

Stupid new ideas......this was all promoted by MS as they thought it will cut down on piracy.
