  Monaco RS Clio 172
I have a 172ff.. leather, xenons, climate control, esp/tc/abs.. and to be fair, yes the cup looks / sounds like maybe a tad more fun, but mine is no slouch. just not sure it'd be worth losing all the modern day essentials.

however one thing has to be said.. the 172 cup has far better wheels.

i've driven both and then took the cup home. just felt more lively and fun. coupled with the fact it is a renault i thought the less electrical gadgets it has the better as i'd heard not all things french and electric are good....

I've owned both too mate, they both have their good and bad points. You just need to decide what you want, the difference in speed between the two is minimal but the cups do feel and drive better. Having said that, the ff 172's are quick too and I did miss all the toys when I traded my ff 172 in!

You've just gotta try both :)

The differences are all small, but along with the fact that they have a better stance, wider track, better spolier and nicer wheels - it's the Cup for me.

It's a case of the sum of the parts being greater than all on their own, IMO.

Hate to keep hijacking threads but for £5895 you could get my Clio 182 that's for sale with a really good spec on it....priced to sell asap. Check out the arctic blue clio for sale thread!

You will probably pay more to insure the cup cos of no abs. I have driven both and prefer the 'livlier' feel to the cup over the 172. Plus the turinis, and spoilers won it for me.

Clio Tom 182....git, undercutting me lol!

I guess I could sell mine for that figure if I removed all the bits from it, but it drives so well with the suspension/wheels/steering wheel etc on it that it seems a shame to take it all apart. Great everyday drive, and could easily be used for track days.

My mate bought a 172 cup low mileage for 5k and loves it, but I'd take the luxeries in the normal 172/182 everyday as his car isn't so comfy, especially in hot weather, and no abs can be sketchy in the wet.

just found one 9miles away from my house on pistonheads! no pictures like but a better deal

One piece of advice mate... get prepared to travel! There are a lot of shitters out there (especially non-Cliosport sellers).

I travelled to Birmingham to look at a couple of crap examples and ended up getting my Silver one from Yeolvil - about an hour away.

I'd have preferred Blue, but I'd seen so many poor examples for too much money, that I couldn't turn down a genuine one for the giveaway price.

The colour, wheels and spoiler look great on the cup and its the better looking car imo.

Performance wise i'm unable to comment.

Although if you go for the normal 172 then you can always buy turinin's and a cup spoiler very popular mods.

And its easy to find salvaged parts off cups at this time of year ;)

try not to look at only the cheapest ones too as there is usually a reason. or so I found.

I went to view a monaco 172 claiming genuine 200bhp from pistonheads, to find countless items on previous MOT advisory including suspension issues brakes oil leaks, it looked nice had really good body work, but the guy told me the headlights only come on when it's dark, and the switch doesn't override them.

me being clueless I nearly fell for it.

the locks didn't work properly the exhaust was blowing tyres bald only 1 month t/t and he still wanted 3900.

bx52l*c is still for sale please be careful you don't fall for the same as I did. I drove 90 miles to view that car because the bloke told me it was mint and genuine.

the list of stuff wrong was more tbh.

glad I walked and found a nice monaco.

Your right mate i do love it, but the cup isnt for the faint hearted as in the wet its fun to say the least. But then i'm not a pansy like u joe, i can deal without air con :D. But the cup has won my heart and would highly recommend one and i stepped down from a 300+ bhp impreza
