Optimum time to change gear

Another silly post from me...

LOL

When do you's guys think the optimum time to change gear in a 172ff is when hammering it ?

At a certain Revs ? (What revs though?)

On the green shift light ?

BEFORE THE GREEN LIGHT ?

On limiter ? (or does this lose power)

Or personal choice ?

Sorry if this sounds silly but i change as soon as green shift light comes on :S

Is this right or wrong time to do it ?

P.s My car has a full stainless powerflow exhaust system (stealth) and K&N Panel Filter with acoustic removed and feed at lower grill, if this makes a difference :S

juuuust before the limiter, practise makes perfect. and don't forget it is a variable limiter dependent on oil temp and some other things i beleive

i think you get a feel for when you need to change in each gear, you can feel the power just about drop then you know its time to change, but yea generally just before the gear change light comes on

i dont look at the revs, just change when i feel the power is about to drop off! I think i change about 6500rpm though!

yup, just before the limiter cos then your at slightly higher revs for the next gear and into the power band of that gear quicker!

If you hit the limiter before the clutch goes down it will slow you down a lot! I dont know this because i've never hit mine... Honest!

Going to the limiter everytime can't be the quickest way! Surely if you change abit earlier you will be in a more torquier band, so therefore better acceleration as torque is what pulls your motor along!

Revving the nuts out the car is not always the quickest way! its all about being in the torque band.

its about getting the revs high enough so when you make the change they don't drop off too much and you are straight on the power and not bogged down

iv found in mine that changing around 7k is the best but it dependd from car to car,if i change at 6.5k i notice a huge drop in power than when i change @ 7k

Ok so 6500rpm it is, i'll start changing there ;)

Or does it vary from clio to clio or car to car ?

What i mean is would it vary if one had filter and another exahust and filetr etc ?

You won't blow the engine on revs the limiters there to protect it and so long as you idealy change the gearbox oil and don't crunch the chnages the box will last forever.

Ass for shift up point sthere ins't one it depends on the gear higher gears have slightly lower shift point in first chnage up just at or as close to the limiter idealy.
