Orange Emissons light

  172 Cup
Twice over the past week whilst stationary the an orange engine light on my dash (right hand side next to the speedo) has been flashing on and off. Ive tapped the throttle a few times, let it idle again then turned the engine off. Then let it sit, start the engine up again and the light has gone.

The renault manual says its a toxic emissons warning. Does this mean my CAT is on its way out, dodgy sensor? Any help would be appreciated.

Does it run ok or is it lumpy??

Usually the sign that your coil pack or something could be on its way out.

If it is coil pack its quite cheap and easy to fix.

i had the toxic emissions light come on in my 1.2 about 18 months ago, i lost power, couldnt go above about 30mph, took it too renault, and they fixed it no problem, said it was misfiring.

mine is on all the time cos my 2nd lambda sensor is dead and i aint got round to changing it. it don't make any difference cos a lot of de-cat cause the sensor to be on. could be you cat on the way out or the sensor. thrashing your engine for a bit may clear it out but maybe not. best idea is to get the emissions checked and the lambda sensor checked if you are worried about it or take out the bulb!!

Its always a bit lumpy on start, but all 172's idle like that first thing. No loss of power at all. Occasionaly I smell an eggy sulfur odour so im guessing something is wrong with my CAT. Cheers for the help

take it for a thrash.

the eggy smell is the chemical reaction in the cat, if the cat was dead there would be no smell, however it could still be dying!

drive it hard for a bit get the cat really hot and see what happens
