orbisoud re-packed

Thought it was about time to sort the orbisoud out so as i have the original exhaust system back on my 172 for the mot which it passed i decided now would be best time to mess with it.
It originaly came off a clio cup racer run by TCR think it did 2 seasons so when i got it it was pretty loud as the packing had been blown out. The box is not designed to be re-packed but didnt fancy paying big money for new one so i cut a section from the box and removed what was left inside

I then purchased some exhaust packing from merlin motorsport (steel wire wool and basalt) Just had to wrap the perferated tube with the wire wool then surround it with the basalt, the wire wool just helps keep the basalt inside the box stop it from blowing out.

then i just packed the basalt in around the rest of the perferated tube and used some of the original mesh removed from the box to cover just the section i had removed to help the protect the packing from when it is welded back up

and now ready to be welded

wasnt that hard really, took about 20mins with grinder and then bout 20mins getting the packing in making sure it was in properly, saved me alot of money though they aint cheap, im just interested now how its going to sound compaired to how it was

Orbi's are about 900 GBP aren't they for a while new system? Look nice but I can't bring myself to spend that much - think I'm just going to go with that new scorpion one or something along those lines once I've got the cash for it - suspension is next on my agenda.

well the complete system is close to the £1000 mark i picked up the complete system second hand for £250 and i think the back box alone brand new is near £300. the 182 orbi is dfferent the common one ppl have is the road version the race version is little louder i think but as you say alot of money when you can pick up another system for half the price

cheers mate, well its at a garage by me at the min but he was unsure if he could weld it as the gap on the one side was little big, im going to have a look 2moro so if he cant do it i will give you a shout, think ive got your number fred so will give you a ring, you in brum aint ya?
