Outrun 2006 - Coast 2 Coast (on PC)

Well Sega certainly couldn't have made a simulation with a brand name like that. It makes the likes of Gran Turismo and Ridge Racer look like the most difficult driving games on the planet.

It's definite Sega. By that, the old-time gamers (like me) who were around for the original arcade versions of OutRun, Buggy Boy, Sega Rally and RoadBlasters will recognise everything instantly. Even though those arcade's were made by different vendors, I think they defined an era of a chronic shortage of 10p pieces!

It's a no brainer, definitely has the usual weird Jap influences (like the in-car girlfriend almost coming to orgasm when you hit a car :S) but it's very nostalgic all the same.

If you rave about GTL and GTR, forget this. If you want a cutesy, brain-dead racer - give it a go. It will run on the most basic of PCs too...

"Hit the cars, break the lines, pass the cars, dribble the ball, dodge the meteorites... etc..."

Promptly uninstalled it after about 20 minutes... Only thing I liked was the music from the original lol

lol looks interestin. might give it a try later :¬) Whats the play value on it (how long til it gets borin?)

  None
I like it - bit different from what I thought it would be like. Bit funny aswell playing it with the keyboard. Got a ff steering wheel and pedals tho for more arcade realism :D lag can be funny on multiplayer games

Griff, don't you find it mad how 'unimpressed' we generally are with today's games? Imagine telling someone 20 years ago (who had just spent a fiver in 10p's on Outrun) what the state of the home games market would be like in 2006?

Lee probably has a better insight than most of us, but the developers and publishers are really under the kosh these days. It's no good churning out highly polished, yet ultimately boring games - people just won't be interested. Everyone seems to be raising the bar (which is a good thing) but it begs the question - just how far can these games creators go?

Sega surely know that they won't rake in bucket-loads of cash with OutRun 2006, but they still make it all the same. It's a nice stab at nostalgia, but ultimately, its rather bland. And as for 20 minutes before you uninstalled it? That's totally unfair. Give it 22 minutes at least! ;)

lol I would have given it 22 minutes mate but it kept crashing so I called it a day..

You've got a very valid point about how we're not really fazed by todays games.. I guess it's over exposure to them. Playing the original Outrun involved begging my mum and dad for change then a 10 minute tantrum when they wanted to leave the arcade. All part of the fun lol
