Over heated now new headgasket!! :(

  Clio 1.8 8v RSi
Went to Sommerset last night, I managed to be stupid and race a saxo vtr....At the end of the misserable loss i noticed my water temp light was on! So i pulled over and me being me knowing nuffin about car engines didnt know what to do, so basically i drove back to a friends 15 minutes away and waiting till this morning to figure out what to do.
So this morning i went out to the car, flipped up the bonnet and boticed the water pump was um EMPTY! and had ORANGE dust looking stuff on the inside.....Got a load of water and topped it up... i then went to a few garages and got told that maybe it was the thermostat, then maybe the head gasket was on its way out....I didnt to get back to work (127 miles away in Cornwall) So i risked it rather than pay the AA £100 for a tow back home. The whole way back the car was being fine, no loss of power so i thought it was fixed but wernt too sure.
So got back got ready for work and left....2 miles up the road the car cut out....completly and now wont even start (though that is probably the altonator still)
Have been told by a few friends...who havnt looked but say its the headgasket...
What should i do apart from not drive it and if comes to it how much will it be roughly to have the headgasket fixed? And anything else i should get looked at? Also, have been told that the ORANGE dust is headgasket...Cheers

orange dust is just rust. dont worry about it. take the oil filler cap off and if its covered in mayo sort of stuff, then its a headgasket, if not check all the pipework and look for a leak from any of the pipes, and also check the water pump. they can be known to leak.

if it is a head gasket, you loooking at around 350-400 to sort properly.

The orange dust though is in the water pump....their is no mayo under the oil cap, the dip stick has no mayo on either. The water pump was empty at the time, and yes, i think the pump has a leak as it did leak out the bottom but sayin that the pump has water in it now and it isnt leaking out? My car isnt starting now, any ideas why? cheers for replying

Edit: Ill post up a few pics now

sure you havent burst a coolant hose or has one come loose?

Well wev found the problem, mechanic got the water pump off after an hour and a half, bloody French stuff, held on with 8 bolts! Its rusted and a small hole has formed so its been draining out....

Getting the new part tomorrow and fitted tomorrow afternoon hopfully, and hopfully that fixes the problem. Also, the battery charge light is flashing...that is another problem...
