Pad tracking???

Had my 72k service last week and the garage mentioned that my tracking was slightly out.

They recommended i ask for 'pad tracking' rather than laser tracking as it would get the same result at half the price.

I've rung two places now and neither have a clue what pad tracking is? Did I misunderstand the guy at the garage or is it just a ploy to get me to opt for the more expensive laser tracking?

At the end of the day laser tracking is only around £20 so no great loss but was just wondering...

they were possibly referring to one of the pre-electronic tracking methods which involved driving onto small metal discs which were free to spin around on a base plate.

£20 sounds alright though.
