Part Exchanging....

  EP3 Civic Type R
It may have been asked on here, but I've had a really good search first....

basically I'm contemplating swapping the 172 Cup in for either a 197 or a Megane 230.

Just wondering if anyone on here has part exchanged with Reno dealers themselves, or local trade spots, how you find the recent prices and if your car was modified at the time?

Any help appreciated, I usually buy private :)

Cheers
Mish

Your Cup is very nice, you'll have few problems selling privatley. Give that a go before taking less on a p/x.

I just got £3500 for a 2005 182 with both cup packs in Inferno. 47k on the clock with belts done and full service history.

That was against an Audi A3 TDi

Jamie, I defo understand the ups of selling privately, just the part exchange logistics are easier. I constantly rely on my car (live quite remotely and travel alot for work) and I'd need to sell my car to part fund a new one...

Cheers for the replies folks. As said, never done it before so just wanted a few ideas/input etc :)

  M2 Competition
I part ex'd my Golf.

Too much hassle selling privately for me (work, not having a car, arranging viewings, waiting months to sell, tyre kickers etc etc)... and by the time you've done all that, the right car has gone!

Exavtly my problem at the moment mate.... work and the fact I travel alot are the main issues, but selling privately is rarely a fun task!

You will always take a knock if you part ex
id recommend either putting back to standard then part ex making abit of cash back on parts selling
or waiting for a private sale and maybe borrowing a car from parents etc?

OP, so you're thinking of taking a hit on yours (low px value) and paying dealer premium? Are you f**king mental??

  EP3 Civic Type R
Not harsh, everyone has opinion mate.... however what makes you have that opinion.

Apart from the fact you do lose out cash wise, logistically things can surely be miles easier?

I'm not just talking about part ex-ing at a dealers, infact, that would be the last place I'd try

If you can find a private deal, and both ends make sense, go for it. I may have misunderstood, I assumed you were talking dealer!

Talking more trade in general bud- local garages etc as well as the possibility of a stealership (I probably wasn't clear in OP)

Reno dealer would be a final thought but I'd sooner just save for the Megane then sell the Cup.

You could always sell it private and let the buyer know that as soon as the car you have found is ready then they can have yours

This is the exact problem I had. I found the perfect car that was too good to pass up.... so took a loss on the clio trade in price. Ah well, roll on Friday and all will be happy again.

I would avoid p/x ing at a Renault dealership as they will offer you peanuts (was offered 3425 for my '04 182 both cup packs 35k on the clock, belts and 5 yr service done etc...). Even though they were selling a virtually identical 182 at one of their dealership up for.......6995 quite a margin they take! This was against a Meg Trophy.

If you need to sell and buy same day have you considered offering your car to an RS specialist (try RSport cars on here Steve's a great bloke). He offered me a better price than the dealer by a fair way but still leaving him room to make a profit. Worth asking anyway....I have chosen to stick with selling privately and hope to get what the car is worth (in my view) but as you'll see from recent posts not much is selling very quickly at the moment and those heavily modded slower than the rest.....

Also if you are looking at buying another RS take a look at Allvehicles (I think this is the right name) they specialise in RS cars and will have a better idea of what yours if worth and may well have a 197 or 230 for you! I honestly don't think Renault are very interested in taking the older RS's as PX so are offering seriously low prices.

''You must be a mug to part exchange a car''

''You only part-ex when your car is f*cked and you need to offload it ...''

  Nimbus Megane R26
they offered me £3.5k trade in against an R26. Needless to say i told them to get f00ked and got just shy of £5k for it.

04 plate,FSH,blackgold,50k miles, just serviced with tyres etc. Would have gone straight on the forecourt.

Sell private dude.

Selling private is defo the best way for value, I fully agree and I never set foot in dealers but wanted to know people's experiences, but as said if I could get a half decent price for a part ex I would do it, for easyness.

I appreciate all your input- some more useful than others.

My parents have always part ex'd cars, none were ever fucked, but again, for easiness, it worked for them. Some very strange views from people on here sometimes.

Ribbo, great post and good advice- cheers for your input matey.

Daniel- LOL.... you never fail to dissapoint

  172 cup
Imho, you only part-ex when your car is f*cked and you need to offload it ...

this guys right, dealership part ex deals will forever be poo

£900 for a fucked golf cabby was one of the contributing factors in
me getting the 172cup... The garage with the type r wouldn't part ex it!
