PC Shooters - Recommendations

I'm fierce for a decent shooter at the moment. Fresh off the back of MW2, I need to get some kills in. Does anyone have any suggestions for perhaps slightly obscure shooters that may have slipped under my radar? Not interested in online, just an epic campaign.

Considering getting back into the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series actually. Games like Prey and Area 51 - the less well known ones that turn out to be good...

Go.

Intense single player campaign
From dense jungles to snow-torn mountains, the intense single player campaign follows a more experienced and mature 'B' Company on a daring new mission in an attempt to stave off a new World War.

It is available for download already but I'll be waiting for a couple of days and buying myself a copy.

Pretty much all the well known ones really. Prey is very good although looking dated now. Excellent game mechanics. Area 51 was a gem but even older still. There was another one which started out on a frozen ship of some sort, but I got bored of that within an hour.

Sniper, or SWAT 4, old school that I still keep going back to... Admittedly a little bit dated now tho

Ah yes I remember Sniper but I never played it. Might look into that. I'm after something a bit visually challenging though ideally.

Have you played the SP campaign on Unreal Tournament 3, Roy? It's a little repetitive, but definitely a good skill-tester on the harder difficulties. You can up the eye-candy quite high as well.

There's another one that's a little obscure that I can't remember the name of - I'll check when I get home. I acquired it, but it kept crashing at the same place. :(

edit - Painkiller is another good Doom-type clone as well.

Deffinately try the new Stalker game, Call of Pripyat (spelling?). It pisses all over the rest of the series. Its nothing ground breaking in terms of the FPS genre but it has one hell of an atmosphere to it!

How about getting a copy of "The Orange Box" by Valve. Team Fortress 2, CounterStrike: Source and HalfLife2 all in 1?

Good suggestions. I'm going to get the latest STALKER game for sure. Meh at the Orange Box. I've played them all a million times already. Saying that, I do quite fancy running through HL2 again :D

I was going to suggest S.T.A.L.K.E.R but you said that. I'm sure I seen a new expansion for it in my local game shop or might have been a Gold edition can't remember now.

Going to be doing some streaming this afternoon so I can't really download, but I'll download STALKER later on from Steam. I played about a quarter of the first one after waiting a hundred years for its release :(

Project igi was awesome!

I remember getting the sniper rifle for the first time on that and thinking 'wow - great game!'

What ruined it for me was the respawning of the bad guys. Clear a room and walk away - 20ft later, you were shot in the back from that very same room. Bastids.

Shame the people that made Far Cry 2 made the same mistake
