pcing help ???

Basically need help with pcing. The person who was suppost to be teaching me only has experience using a rotary so really cant help me out too much. Basically done my car the other day there as far as i could see the swirls were gone (my car is very badly swirled/scratched due to years of car wash abuse before me ) so i am left to try and sort this out now. I have got the proper porter cable and all 3 3M pads off the i4detailing website and Menzerna 203 s power finish and also the final finish product. Anyways to cut a long story short i washed my car in the usual manor today to find out that the scratches swirls are still there and basically dont know where i am going wrong? Anybody any idea how to help ?

Urm, your not using a appropriate polish and pad combo. Or you are, but your scratching it washing it.

how do you determine which pad and polish combo is correct? and i am using a soft mitt and also a grit guard bucket and properly foaming it down first etc so i am covering all things i can do to try and stop grit whilst washing

yea seen him over there, tbh i think i am just going to get a rotary and get my friend who is a proper detailer to teach me properly as i am not 100% sure about how good the pc is

Are you spending enough time on each section? I used to do about a 2ft by 2ft square section at a time.

You need to wait a while for the polish to be worked and broken down. Depending on polish/pad it takes about 4-5 mins of working with DA (roughly). You can tell that the polish has been worked as it goes clear, like a sheen over the paint.

Read dave KG's guide on DW mate... Thoroughly.

Alternatively, the polish and pad combo your using is too weak so step up to a pad or polish with more cut.

Polish a section, when your done, see if its corrected or not, if it hasnt, step it up....

Maybe you need to work the polish for longer, i.e. going over with more passes. It is good to be able to watch someone do it first, I'm learning from the legend that is RussZS atm

Callum, going straight to a rotary is not a good solution.

As said in PM a while back, you need to go and see someone like PaulB, Alan or Ali. Someone near you that knows what they are doing with the PC.

No offense, but it isn't going to be the PC or the polish/pad combo as you and I have chatted through those. It is more likely to be your technique. First run that I did on my car barely did anything. I was so excited to see the results I didn't use the knowledge I had from watching videos and practising on waste panels.

3M pads suck by DA, if you want decent results quickly, get the Menzerna ones

going to get menzerna pads and also get some practise panels tomorrow mate then have a look what I can do

I still think that the Sonus pads are good for newbie machine polishers. Last forever and have a decent enough cut!

agree, the sonus spot pads ive got are really nice to use - even just on practise panels

I honestly still have a couple of the spot pads from when I first started detailing back in 04. Used them a good few times (not everytime, obviously!) and the finishing blue pads are still going strong!
