PCs preloaded with sheeeeeeeeit

Just prepping a few laptops for work now. Why on earth do manufacturers preload so much crap on their laptops/PCs?

First to go - Norton, without a shadow of a doubt. Then the five ISP setups, care programs, registration documentation, security turd and other 110% useless bits of crap. These ones even have thumb-print recognition readers...... FFS!

I'm a midge's todger off reformatting the damn things, loading the chipset, gfx, audio and NIC drivers and be done with it. The laptop would then be probably 200% quicker too. ;)

format - install - ghost = winner! even after you uninstall the crap u'll have registry junk issues till the cows come home

  Pink & Blue 182, JDM DC2
And even worse, now they don't ship the CD's with new machines you can 'teven format and use the Windows disk to re-install without all the guff.

Sad state of affairs. :(

IBMs by any chance?. Same problem here, if the laptops are bought through the coporate system then they automatically get rebuilt to corporate spec before being sent to me. If I special order different specs I rebuild them myself, I recently had a batch of 2k a piece IBM laptops which out of the box were literally useless until rebuilt, pretty disgusting really, I feel sorry for the average consumer who hasn't got a clue how to rebuild a machine and has to live with the sorry state of the dispatched machines.

Spot on. My point exactly.

To me, it's just a ball-ache, crap that ideally I could do without. But regular Joe Public would have to leave all that useless junk on there.
