People trying to race you......

Hi

I am looking forward to getting my 172 on Friday....I would like to know does driving a car like this get much attention from other drivers (i.e people who perhaps fail to relaise how fast these cars are and try and teach them a lesson)

I am not interested in racing people or anything like that (only on a race track!), but would be interested if you get any trouble and what sort of car/driver tries being an arse!

Its not too bad, people still under-estimate them. Youll always get some t**t in a ctr though that will try and ram you off the road.

i had my 172 now for nearly 9 months and i think i have had a total of 2 people try it on!!! usually i find with me its people in there 40's+ that quickly wanna get infront of you after some traffic lights and think your just in some chaved up 1.2!! most of the time i dont even bother with them. never get much trouble with racing unless you actually act like you want a race

its road legal....no one races me (i would never respond...) they just sit very close to my tail...must be only a few single seater cars on the road..

i doubt you'll get too much hassle, just ignore them and let them overtake or burn you from the lights, they will look more of a dick if you dont react.

its a rare occasion i get to go out a drive and not have some knob trying to undertake me , overtake me or just sit up my arse even when im sitting at 30-40moh. Maybe just cause its yellow??:dapprove:

there just jelouse theirs isnt liquid yellow and dosent look as good!

Guess it depends on the area, I didn't get it that often, just from the odd Beamer trying to jump me at the lights etc. I get it more now I've got the 1.4 badges on it.

Tbh I think 182's get more attention for this purley because of the dual exhaust. Makes a lot of people think it's an aftermarket mod to those who aren't in the know etc...

In the 6 months of owning my previous Cup and the 5 months of this one, only once I've had a do with a CTR. Strange how it varies from person to person.

Tends to be the Corsa/Saxo boys that try and nudge you into putting your foot down, usually they don't realise that the 172/182's aren't too slow.

I've only ever had one c**k-jockey in a VTR try it on when I had my 172 Cup almost 3 years ago; slowing down then speeding up right to my bumper driving through a residential area in Swansea. No-one has tried it on with the Trophy though in 2 years of owning it.

i get no end of rep mobiles/diesels/hyundai coupe/saxos/corsas/etc trying it on with me. Pisses me right off.

not been as bad recently though. I have also started just pulling over and letting them past.

Racing blue 182 btw.

I think in a silver one or a blue one it wont be half as bad.

It wasn't bad in my silver one, but once you make it loud, low, nice wheels etc it does attract more attention.

But moving over and letting them go is the way forward. You know you could pass them/thrash them, but don't need to show them that too.

Yeah, people underestimate it! Had a Focus ST driver give me some bother. God he looked shocked when he struggled to lose me. . Ofc in the end he pulled away

Dont get many trying it on at lights, roundabouts etc but i do find more people will sit close to your bumper expecting you're going to pull away and brake the speed limit everywhere you drive!!!!!!, i just let them get on with it, they usually get bored after a while.

I also get it daily and mostly by much inferior cars such as 1.4 MG ZR's. Most people round my way don;t know much about the Clio Sports, especially the Trophy
