Petrol Boosters - Waste of money or not?

My mate keeps some in his car, raises the Octane/Ron level a couple of points. He lives in the sticks with no super unleaded garages for miles. If he can only get 95ron he puts a tin of Octane boost in. Just to bump it up.

unless the engine is designed to run into det limit via knock control and can make use of the extra octane it wont make any difference.

turbo cars tend to use knock control more than NA and therefore scoobs etc tend to make better power with octane increase

Most NA cars and not det limited and therefore increase in octane will do little if any changes.

As my car has been mapped to run on super, and runs like an absolute pig on standard 95 stuff I'd say yes they are good!

However, if you're just putting it in to try get more power from a car not mapped for it - waste of time.

Thing is most boosters you buy in the shops don't boost the Ron they boost octane, by normally a max of 7 points which is what 0.7 ron? and that is the race stuff, street use is 3 points!

there worth it if you have somthing like a supra :) id just use super unleaded or v power

dont use the tablet octance boosters we tested them at work and just blocked up the pump and filters
