Petrol gauge problem

when I got my cup on Friday, I went for a long drive etc until the petrol gauge was down to the last notch, even though the trip computer was still showing 120+ miles to filling up. I filled up the tank but only got in 30 litres or so. Also, having filled up, the gauge is already two notches down from the maximum after two days, without much hard driving in between. The trip computer also shows 26-27mpg. I did mostly town driving sat/Sunday, but on Friday gave the car a goo running in the countryside where I would expect better mpg, despite being thrashed.

Has anybody had problems like this with their petrol gauge, and is 27 mpg normal??

The tank is like a beer bottle shape. Thin at the top and fat at the bottom. 27mpg is about average till the engine loosens up a bit. Should get about 280-300 miles on a good day out of a tank.

mine lies like that too on my 172 it was showin half full with 300 miles left in tank that was at 41mpg

Thanks, the tank shape explanation makes good sense. But my trip computer showing 120 miles on a single tank gauge notch suggests the tank is shaped like a cone! Ill see how the mpg develops over the next few weeks.

you mean it just flies past 140 and settles nicely on 150?
