Ph.1 172 Immobiliser Issue

  PH1 172
Hi,

My 2000 172 PH1 was broken into a month ago. The passenger window was put through and I got to it seconds after the toerag had run off, alarm still going. I silenced the alarm, but the immobiliser wouldn’t unlock (dash light flashing) and it wouldn't start. After a few hours, I tried again and it started, so took it to the garage. The mechanic left it in garage overnight while waiting for new glass to arrive. He then experienced the same immobiliser problem the next day. I'm not sure what he did (I sent him a variety of links from here and YT), but he told me to collect it and that he felt it was ok.

Of course, the next day, the problem was back. I disconnected the battery, which seemed to reset it. Once started and car warm, the problem went away – it seems to be more of an issue when cold.

I got in it today, and despite disconnecting the battery several times, the light is flashing and it won’t start. On top of that, I cannot find the spare key… It could be at my mother’s… Have no idea.

Assuming I can’t find the spare key, is there anything I can do? Does anyone know of a routine I can try? The car was fine before the toerag broke into it and never once in the 11 years I’ve had it has the immobiliser played up before. Car's been flawless TBH - I got it with 25K and it now has 60K on it.

My mechanic isn’t a Cliosport specialist. The nearest one is 50 miles from me. Any suggestions would be very gratefully received. Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much for the suggestions.

The YT video is what I sent the mechanic. I've tried it about 10 times without luck. I will call him tomorrow and see if that's what fixed it before.

I plan to change battery as well tomorrow. I have read that the immobiliser isn't connected to it, though. If the battery's gone, then why does the alarm / locking work ok? I got the impression that there is some kind of chip / RFID in the key that relates to the immobiliser... I hope that is wrong info and a battery fixes it.

Key fob battery, not the car battery.

Took your advice and the car started, James. Thank you!

I am hoping this was not a freak and it continues to be ok... Weird thing was, the old battery measured 3.2V... But batteries can fail under load and measure decent V when simply connected to a meter.
