PH1 Air Box

Just something i was thinking about, why did Renault change from the ph1 air box to the ph2 if the ph 1 is better? Or is it that the ph 2 box is better?

Ph1 airbox seems to be a better airbox. The ph1 airbox is the same shape and size to the old espace v6 airbox that people upgrade too (whereas the ph1 airbox has 2 small intakes rather than 1 large intake)

I agree but why did Renault change the design in the first place rather than keeping the ph1 air box? i can't see the logic behind it other than to possibly save money?

I'd ask the same question about the gear knob! Metal ball for phase 1 (like all the great cars have), strange wedge shaped soft lump of crap for phase 2.

It seems they did a number of things to save money, can't see why they would of done them things for any other reason. And it shows! That's why the ph1 is quicker more money spent on it better car.

Probably money, but maybe for induction noise reasons as well, or even the same design being used in another application already.

They realised that they'd already made the best RS Clio, so threw anything into phase 2's !!

Shame, all they had to is leave the car how it was and just change the bonnet bumpers headlights rear lights and front wings. i'm looking at ph1's now.

Ph2's are probably a bit more 'grown up'. Thats the best way i'd describe them.

Much more diplomatic :approve: You're probably right about the noise regs with the airbox change though Jon. In standard form the ph2 is better, but if you're planning on putting coilovers etc on it this evens them up, and the ph1 is lighter, so a better bet as a track car.

If the ph1 airbox is so much better why is their zero difference in real term performance between it and other sport models?

The reason their is very little difference is the ph2 was slower than the ph1 on the ph1 gear ratios, so what renault did to make if faster is make the gear ratios shorter to help the new slower revised ph2. Shame really because motorway driving is ball ache, needs a 6th gear tbh.
