Ph1 speedo sensor removal

Read up on some other threads this just pulls out. Been giving it a good tug but no joy. Didn't want to pull any harder without checking I'm doing the right thing here. How hard do you tug yours??

Yep..just pull hard. It's just a couple of o rings stopping it from coming out.

I've managed to swop it with new one but hasn't made a difference.

What else could cause the speedo to stop working? Hoping its not the loom

faulty abs can also effect it.

The little gear drive that the end of the speedo sensor goes into can strip from what I have read...

is the speedo giving any reading? try leaving the sensor disconected see if it gives you a reading.
is the ABS warning light on?

Speedo isn't doing anything. No warning lights, car stops on a dime. Sometimes after a spirited drive and a hard brake the pedal 'farts' a tiny bit

What was the speedo doing before you swapped the sensor over? Usually when the speedo sensor is going the speedo needle doesn't hold steady but wobbles about and then every now and again will drop to zero. Was it doing this? Or did it just stop working altogether?

I'm going to take another look soon, just waiting for the manifold to cool down a bit

I was on motorway and it just dropped and stayed there. For a few days after it would randomly wiggle between home and 20mph, but hasn't done anything for a while now

Just had another look, seem to be in ok, I can feel it go in over both o rings but it doesnt make a really good connecting sound like I'd hope. Pulls out fairly easy too? I've put my body weight on it pushing down but doesn't seem to want to go anymore. The little latches both sides of the part that goes into the box are getting oily and making marks as it goes in so I presume its in ok?

Any ideas?

Test the dash clocks, hold the mode change button on the end of the stalk, and then turn the igntion to the second point, all the dials should go nuts. If the speedo doesn't move you know you've got problems at that end.

Must be sensor then. New one is fitted but on closer inspection I can see the top of the top blue o ring in the casing. I've pushed down as hard as I can and tried giving it a few love taps with a 21mm socket but no joy.

Is there a knack to get this fully plugged?

Have you definately orientated it correctly? They only go in one way.

I've fitted it with the two keyways closest to the front of car (to match the slots in the recess) assuming that's correct?

It's pushes in fairly easily in two stages can't get it any further past the second one

Clean it up then put some lube on it and it'll slip right in.

on my 1.6 sensor it has two clips that stick out from the sensor these go one facing the engine and one facing the gearbox.

does the speedo work with the sensor disconnected?

have you got a diagnostic computer even one of the cheap bluetooth ones off ebay?

if you drive up the road with one fitted they can show if the ecu is getting a speedo reading.
