Phone Upgrade

  Not a Clio
It's that time again where I can have a free upgrade.

This year the choice is crap, in the past there's been about 2 phones with an upgrade fee and the rest free, this time loads have a price attached :(

Anyway... I know bugger all about phones so can I have opinions on what to get?

FREE

Motorola E1070
Nokia 6030
Nokia 3120
Nokia 1600
Motorola L6
LG F2250
Samsung E800
Samsung E530
Samsung E350E

£29.99

Motorola V3 Black
Motorola Rokr E1
Samsung D500
Samsung E720
Nokia 6230i
Orange SPV C600
Sony Ericsson K750i

There are other higher priced ones but I don't want to spend any extra really.

i have the Nokia 6230i, only 'cos it was free. I'm happy with it though. Camera is ok, easy to use, fair bit of memory & MP3 player..
tick's all the right boxes for me..

why are you having to pay for the better phones??? i get a free upgrade every 12 months on orange! My misses upgraded on orange this weekend and she was given the choice of any phone!

Dunno mate. Like i said, in previous years there's only been 1 or 2 phones with a fee attached, this time there are loads. I've not changed my package or taken any special offers.

I've just e-mailed them to find out why.

Going to try and see if we can come to some sort of deal on the Samsung D600e. They want £49.99 for it but I notice it's free to new customers.

Gayness.

They weren't even interested in seeing if they could help me out by lowering any handset prices.

Going to look around see if any of the other providers are doing any decent deals.

This deal seems good but I don't know how good the phone is?

phone them and ask for a PAC code(the code you need to take your number to another network)

i done this with o2 a couple of weeks back cos they tried to charge me 89.99 for the k750i,when new customers could have it free, they the offered me it for 29.99 but i still wasnt happy and insisted they gave me the code.

ended up getting my £20 a month tarriff reduced to £10 a month and the phone for 29.99 :D so i stayed with them:approve:

iirc somebody posted a while back that o2 have 2 call centres one in manchester and 1 in leeds ,one of them ( cant remember which 1) dont give a toss if you wanna leave ,but the other will bend over backwards to keep you with them...looks like you got the couldnt give a toss one

glad your sorted anyway mate:)

it was orange that couldn't give a toss. I'm moving to 02 :)

Bloody too right. I'm on Orange 120 (£25/month) and last year they wouldn't give me any decent phones on free upgrade. They treat their existing customers like s**t and keep the good deals for the new ones. So I terminated my old Orange contract and bought a new Orange contract with a damn good handset for free (I actually like Orange for everything else - best coverage where I live too).

And guess what? Same scenario 12 months later - I've just given me notice again as they wanted £49.99 upgrade for a SE W800i, yet new customers can get that handset FREE plus other special deals on their own bloody website...   Pisses me off.

When's the W810i out? I need a new contract before 7th March...

Yeah I am on the 120, apparently i don't spend enough. My average bill is between £35 and £45 a month.

Hopefully 02 will be better when it comes to upgrade time!

I just got a contract out with orange and i've never had service like it. It might be because i'm on orange premier but seriously, i will always speak to a person within 3 calls and they've been incredibly helpful everytime i've phone. I pay around £70 a month mind you.

Don't get me wrong, I've been with orange for 2 years and never had an issue.

We recently moved house and the signal is now appauling but i didn't actually consider leaving orange until i realised that this time i couldn't actually upgrade to the more recent decent phones.

The few occasions I have called them I've not had to sit in a queue which has been great.

I've had a few issues with o2, but I've been with them since they were Cellnet. They never seem to have a decent range of phones compared to the likes of Vodafone, they do get them, only a few months later.

Last year I had a K700 as my upgrade and it gave me loads of problems, so they happily swapped it for a 6230.

I called the other day as I'm out of contract and was told all the phones they currently have are free to me, I don't know if that's because of what I spend or due to me being on o2 business.

I'm going to wait for the 6280 which they should have around the end of March. It's nothing too fancy but does all I want, which is text and phone.

I cant fault the service ive ever had with T-Mobile but their choice of phones is shocking, ive been waiting months now just for something half decent but theyre always months behind every other network when it comes to releasing mobiles

o2 have been good with me. Happy to help and like Lee gave me a free replacement 6230 when my K700 was giving me problems. Just upgraded to a free W800i with them on the same £25 per month contract.

Never had any problems with O2 either, Started with them when they where BT Cellnet to, Did go to Orange for a year, when everyday 50 came about, but the signal was sh*t at home and work all the time, so went back to them. Still none the wiser what to choose upgrade wise so going to wait.

are all o2 phones usually unlocked? i like the look of the s500i but its on o2 only and im on orange!

Well T-Mobile just keep getting better with the handsets they offer.
I sent them an email complaining about the phones they have to offer and they replied telling me that they had thses two phones just about to be released.
Nokia 6820
Sony Ericsson Z520i

Great! theyve both been available on other networks for over a year!!!

No mention of Sony Ericsson W900, Nokia 8800, Nokia 6111, SE W550, SE P990, Nokia N71, Nokia N80, SE W810 or the Nokia N91.

I was with t-mobile to begin with. Was fine for the first few months then they had an issue where caller identification no longer worked on a number of handsets so you never knew who was calling as the number would NEVER be displayed. For the year I was with them they never managed to resolve the issue and never offered to swap my phone.

well my D600 came yesterday (next day delivery!)

It's a very nice phone, loving the very smooth slide action. A lot smoother and easier than my Sanyo S750. A fair bit smaller to!
