And here's some information on the legalities...

And an email from the DVLA...

"I can confirm that your assumption is mostly correct and European number plates may be used legally on vehicles manufactured between these dates (1973 and 2001). Schedule 2 Part 1 also extends the 'European' facility to number plates fitted on vehicles manufactured after September 2001. However, the equivalence test would be carried out against the latest issued British Standard"

Aye nout wrong with having a french flag...I'm not debating that! The fed that got me was more interesting in the Ebossed letters, which are illegal and the fact they were metal, again illegal and also the lack of reflection.

Suppose it all depends on who pulls you, i don't personally think mine were that obvious.

As per the quote above, I'm not contradicting myself, i merely mean't don't beleive everything you hear/read...At the end of the day the police will have the final word. Whether your wrong or right! :)

I wasn't talking about the french flag either. I was talking about the plates in general. Haha! Remember that cars registered before the 1st September 2001 are to be of reflex-reflecting material and cars registered on or after the 1st September 2001 are be of retroflecting material.

When you told me to "not believe everything I see/hear" you then told me that the police presented you with some documentation stating that the plates were illegal. Well their piece of documentation is therefore different or contradicts another source of legal information like I posted above. So you could argue it... but if it was to go to court and incur legal costs, etc... I'd just say I'll remove them :)

But yes like you say, at the end of the day, it depends on who pulls you over. Some will let it slip whilst others will go around your car and pick out anything and everything with a fine toothcombe.
